Tennessee Tech Beats Southeast In Overtime Thriller

Jan. 20, 2005

Final Stats

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Willie Jenkins scored 34 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Tennessee Tech to an 82-81 overtime win over Southeast Missouri State. The win keeps Tech in first place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a league mark of 5-0 while Southeast Missouri falls to 1-4.

Jenkins sent the game into overtime with a contested 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Derek Winans running jumper with 18-seconds left had put Southeast up by three, but Jenkins shot tied the game and Southeast did not get a final shot because Terrick Willoughby was called for a charge with two-seconds remaining.

Tennessee Tech led for much of the overtime, but Southeast tied the score at 79-79 on a layup by Winans with 1:47 remaining. Derek Stribling, who had 23 points, hit a big three with 1:17 remaining and the Golden Eagles held on for the win.

Reggie Golson, who had 17 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots hit a pair of free throws to bring the Indians within one at 82-81, but his final shot at the buzzer came up short.

Dainmon Gonner led Southeast with 19 points while Winans had 13 and Willoughby 10.

Southeast will host Austin Peay on Saturday, 5 p.m., at the Show Me Center in a game that will be televised throughout the southern United States on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) and locally on UPN-The Beat. The game will be tape delayed until 7 p.m. in Chicago on Comcast Sports Net Chicago.
