Jan. 29, 2007
Cape Girardeau, Mo. - League leading Austin Peay came from behind in the second half to beat Southeast Missouri State 75-73 in an Ohio Valley Conference game. It was the Governors eleventh straight victory. Southeast Missouri, 8-15 overall and 6-8 in the OVC, led 41-28 at the half, but the Governors started the second half with an 18-5 run that tied the game at 46-46 and the game remained tight the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than five points. Michael Rembert, who had 17 points and nine rebounds, gave Southeast the lead at 73-71 with 33-seconds remaining, but Todd Babington nailed a 3-pointer with 17-seconds remaining to put the Governors up by one. After a Redhawks miss, Babington was fouled and made one of two free throws with eight-seconds remaining. After his miss, Southeast got the ball down court, but the Governors deflected a pass out of bounds with just eight tenths of a second remaining. The inbound pass for a possible tip in missed connections and Austin Peay had the victory. The Governors 14-6 overall and 11-1 in the OVC, were led by Drake Reed with 23 points while Babington added 14 and Derek Wright 10. Joining Rembert in double figures for the Redhawks were Johnny Hill with 14 and Brandon Foust with 10. Southeast returns to action on Saturday at Tennessee-Martin. |
