Southeast Rally Comes Up Short
Jan. 31, 2006
Clarksville, Tenn. - A furious rally came up short as the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks lost an Ohio Valley Conference game at Austin Peay, 73-62. The Redhawks trailed 50-30 with 12-minutes remaining, but battled back to within five at 65-60 with 25-seconds remaining before Austin Peay iced the game with eight free throws. It was the seventh straight loss for the Redhawks who trailed 35-19 at the half as the Governors held the league's top scorer, Roy Booker, to only three first half points. Booker warmed up in the second half and ignited the Southeast rally that came up just short. Southeast, 6-13 overall and 3-10 in the OVC, had the ball trailing by just five with just under 25-seconds remaining, but a 3-point try by Terrick Willoughby went about half way down before bouncing out and the Governors hit their free throws to put the game away. Booker finished the night with 22 points while Willoughby and Paul Paradoski both added 11. Austin Peay, 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the OVC, was led by Maurice Hampton with 20 points and Azc Schlader with 19 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Eric Jones led Southeast rebounders with seven. Southeast returns to the Show Me Center to host Tennessee-Martin on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. |
