Southeast Falls to Tennessee-Martin, 90-71
Feb. 2, 2008 By Tyler Koonce, Assistant Men's Basketball Contact CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State fell 90-71 to Tennessee-Martin in an OVC matchup Saturday night at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks (12-12, 7-7 OVC) converted only three shots from behind the arc while the Skyhawks (11-14, 7-8 OVC) made 11 three-pointers. Martin led throughout and held a 44-38 halftime lead behind Gerald Robinson, who led first half numbers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Marquis Weddle added nine points while Lester Hudson, the nation's second leader scorer, chipped scored eight, during the first 20 minutes. Senior Michael Rembert paced the Redhawks with eight points in the initial period. Will Bogan scored seven in only five minutes off the bench. Jaycen Herring scored six and pulled down three rebounds while Johnny Hill added four boards of his own. Hank Harris dished out three first half assists. In the second half, UTM pulled away, leading by as much as 22 with 1:22 left in regulation. Robinson registered a double-double with game-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Hudson also notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards. Weddle finished with 22 points and four rebounds. Benzor Simmons reached double figures with 10 points. Bogan led the Redhawks with 18 points and seven rebounds in only 20 minutes of action. Herring finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Roderick Pearson scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds. Hill tied Bogan for the team lead with eight rebounds. Southeast returns to action Thursday in an OVC contest at Morehead State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from the Ellis T. Johnson Arena. The Redhawks return home on Feb. 14 with a 7:30 p.m. start against Eastern Illinois. |
