CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- Southeast Missouri is coming alive when it counts the most.

Southeast earned their second win in a row Thursday, knocking off the Skyhawks of the University of Tennessee-Martin, 78-51 at the Show Me Center.

The win put Southeast into a tie for eighth place in the Ohio Valley Conference, and back into contention for nabbing the final OVC Tournament playoff berth.

"We definitely have a confidence boost right now," said Junior Tim Scheer. "We've gotten a lot better these past couple of games, and we are looking forward to keeping the momentum into the (OVC) Tournament."

Southeast (5-19, 3-10 OVC) hit on 8-11 three-point shots and was led by 14 points from Scheer. Southeast was able to limit the Skyhawks (13-12, 5-8) to 31.5% shooting for the game, as the Indians built a 35-18 halftime lead and never looked back.

Brett Hale and Derek Winans each scored 13 points for Southeast, while Demetrius King added 11.

Martin was led by 15 points from Jair Peralta.

The 27 point victory was the biggest margin since Southeast bested Morris Brown 83-50 last season. The 51 points were the fewest by an Indian opponent all season.

"This was one of our best defensive efforts of the year," said Coach Garner. "Our players did a heck of a job executing the defensive scheme."
