Redhawks Upset Bulldogs, 63-52 Snap Losing Streak

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Thursday, February 23, 2006) - Southeast Missouri State ended a 12-game losing streak with a 63-52 upset win over Samford.

Southeast, 7-19 overall and 4-15 in the Ohio Valley Conference, hit 12-25 3-pointers on the way to the win over Samford, 17-10 overall and 13-6 and in second place in the OVC.

Despite shooting just 29% from the field, the Redhawks led 25-21 at the half and led by as many as 17 in the second half. The Redhawks built the lead by hitting 6-10 from three in the second half.

Roy Booker, the leading scorer in the OVC, led Southeast with 21 points while Terrick Willoughby added 20 and Paul Paradoski 11. Willoughby was 5-8 from three.

Samford was led by J. Robert Merritt with 19 points, but no other Bulldog scored in double figures.

Southeast closes the season on Saturday, hosting Jacksonville State in a 7:30 p.m. game.
