Southeast Opens Season with 70-59 Victory Over Truman State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (November 17, 2000) - Senior guard Emmanuel McCuthison scored 17 points on 7-11 shooting as the Southeast Missouri State Indians opened the season with a 70-59 victory over Truman State on Friday at the Show Me Center.

An early 10-0 Southeast (1-0) run that included two three-pointers from McCuthison and two field goals by Drew DeMond sparked Southeast to a 14-4 lead a mere five minutes into the game. Southeast would build a lead as big as 15 in the first half before taking a 36-24 margin into halftime.

The second half saw Southeast extend its lead to as many as 23 before a late Truman State (0-1) run cut the final score to 70-59.

McCuthison also connected on 3-5 three pointers and added five rebounds and three steals for the Indians. Demond was the only other Southeast player in double figures, as he contributed 12.

Brian Brown led Truman State with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

For the game Southeast shot an impressive 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range and 90 percent from the line. The Indian defense held Truman State to only 33 percent shooting from the field and a mere 21 percent from behind the arc.

Southeast will be back in action on Tuesday, November 21, at 7:00 p.m. at the Show Me Center against Missouri-Rolla.
