Kansas State Beats Redhawks 88-68

MANHATTAN, KAN. (Sunday, November 16, 2008) - Kansas State of the Big 12 Conference built up a 39-16 halftime lead but had to hold on for an 88-68 win over Southeast Missouri State. The Wildcats (2-0) built a 39-16 halftime lead while controlling the boards 34-19 while the Redhawks (0-2) shot only 17% from the field. Southeast shooting warmed up in the second half and pulled within 15 at 46-31 with 13:48 remaining behind the scoring of Kenard Moore who had a career-high and game-high 31 points. The Redhawks outscored the Wildcats 52-49 in the second half and won the battle of the boards 28-16. Junior LaMont Russell had game-high 17 rebounds for the Redhawks. Jajuan Maxwell recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. he went 5-8 from the field including 2-3 from beyond the three-point arc. He also blocked two shots against the tall Wildcats frontline. Senior Jaycen Herring finished with seven points before fouling out midway through the second half. The Wildcats had four players who scored in double figures led by Fred Brown with 21 points who went 4-6 from three-point range. Darren Kent finished with a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds The Redhawks will open the home season on Friday, hosting Culver-Stockton in a 5:30 p.m. game. |
