Southeast Improves to 2-0 With 87-63 Victory Over Missouri-Rolla Indians place four scorers in double figures.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (November 21, 2000) - Southeast Missouri State University improved its 2000-2001 record to 2-0 behind 17 points and six rebounds from freshman Terry Rogers. Rogers was playing in his first game of the season after missing the season opener with Truman State due to a bought with bronchitis. Continuing its hot shooting performance, the Indians shot 51 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range. Other scorers in double figures for Southeast included Michael Stokes with 15, Amory Sanders and Emmanuel McCuthison with 13 apiece. Stokes also added a game-high six assists and a team-high six rebounds. For Missouri-Rolla (0-2), freshman Brian Westre led the Miners with a double-double, pitching in 24 points and 11 rebounds. Westre scored 23 and had 16 rebounds in Rolla's season opening victory over William Penn. Rogers made the most exciting play of the night in the second half. Despite being 6-10 and 280, Rogers nimbly took an Antonio Short pass off the fast break and made a amazing layout while being fouled that brought the Show Me Center crowd to its feet. Southeast will next travel to the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by UMKC. The Indians will open first-round play against preseason MAC favorite Toledo at Noon on Friday. |
