Coppin State Edges Southeast 102-99 in Two Overtimes

Hoffman Estates, Ill. - Coppin State battled back to tie the game at 81-81 at the end of regulation, came from behind to tie the game 92-92 at the end of the first overtime and then held on to claim a 102-99 win over Southeast Missouri State after two overtimes.

In the Chicago Invitational Challenge at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., the Redhawks led 47-38 at the half and led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but could not hold off the Eagles from Coppin State. The Redhawks had a four-point lead with 26-seconds remaining in regulation play, but Robert Pressey, who had 25-points, hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to tie the game at 81 and force an overtime.

Southeast jumped ahead in the overtime and led by eight points at 91-83 with 2:13 remaining, but again the Eagles battled back. Tywain McKee, who had a game-high 33 points, hit a long 3-pointer with 16-seconds remaining to tie the game at 92 and Jimmy Drew missed a fall away jumper at the buzzer with the game going to a second overtime.

Coppin led by as many as five points in the second overtime, but the Redhawks battled back to take the lead 98-97 with 1:44 remaining. McKee again hit a 3-pointer with 1:20 remaining and the Eagles led 100-98 and never again relinquished the lead.

Drew led Southeast in scoring with 19 points, including 6-8 from three while Will Bogan had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Calvin Williams had his second straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jaycen Herring with 13, David Johnson with 12, and Brandon Foust with 10 also scored in double-figures for the Redhawks.

Southeast, 2-3, will play Longwood University at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in the final game of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.
