Indians Down Kentucky Christian

Nov. 24, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season by beating Kentucky Christian 83-51. The Indians easily handled the Knights (7-6) as they jumped out to a 42-22 halftime lead.

Southeast held Kentucky Christian to just 21.9 percent shooting in the opening half-including just three-for-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. In contrast, the Indians shot nearly 48 percent from the field in the half, and jumped out to a 42-22 lead after one half of play.

The second half looked much like the first, as Southeast was able to control the tempo of the game throughout. The Indians caused Kentucky Christian to turn the ball over 12 times in the second half, and a total of 23 times in the game. Southeast also held a distinct advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Knights 56-36, including 20 offensive boards.

Junior Brett Hale led all scorers in the game with 18 points, while pulling down six boards. Reggie Golson also chipped in with 11 points, and six rebounds.

Sophomore center Cole Grapperhaus led the Indians in rebounds with a game-high seven rebounds.

For Kentucky Christian, Darnell Chatman led the way with 15 points on six-of-13 from the floor. Chatman also picked up seven rebounds. T.J. Lykins finished with 12 points, and Daniel Williams ended with 10. Williams, however, scored all 10 points in the first half, and had seven turnovers in the contest.

Southeast will look to remain undefeated on the season as they will next play in the Montana Tournament this Saturday and Sunday.
