Cape Girardeau, Mo. (November 27, 2001) - The Southeast basketball Indians played their hearts out against a tough Arkansas-Little Rock team Tuesday night, but lost by nine, 83-74.

Southeast was down by 18 with five minutes left in the first half, but a strong run helped the Indians pull to within three with two minutes to go. The first half ended shortly thereafter with ULAR leading by 11. The second half saw the Indians make two impressive comebacks cutting the lead to as close as one, but couldn't stop the shooting attack from Arkansas-Little Rock's Nick Zachery, who had 21 points and shot 6-9 form the field and 3-5 from behind the three point line

Freshman Guard Derek Winans led all scorers with 29 points as he shot 11-18 from the field and 4-8 from behind the three-point arc. He scored 18 of those points in the second half, but couldn't carry the Indians on his back. His backcourt mate, freshman Brett Hale, had 17 points and six rebounds. Junior Tim Scheer had 16 points and seven rebounds.

UALR had five players in double figures including Zachery. Damion Ninkovic had 18 points and five rebounds. Mark Green, Danny McCall, and Jibrahn Ike all had 12 points.

Southeast next plays host to Western Illinois this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Show Me Center.
