Montana Hands Southeast Missouri First Loss of Season

Missoula, Montana - Poor shooting led to Southeast Missouri State's first loss of the season as Montana beat the Indians 61-50 in the opening round of the Montana Holiday Tournament.

Southeast shot just 27% from the field in the first half and fell behind 33-25. The Indians warmed up a bit in the early part of the second half and after falling behind 16 points at 47-31 qwith 14:21 remaining in the game, battled back to get within seven points and 53-46 with 7:16 remaining but got no closer.

Montana was led by the inside attack of 6-7 Kamarr Davis and 6-10 John Seyfert who combined for 31 points and 17 rebounds. Seyfert had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Davis had 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Southeast got 10 points from both Dainmon Gonner and Derek Winans with Gonner adding a team-high 7 rebounds. The Indians shot just 34.5% fromt he field and 18.2% from three.

Southeast Missouri will face UC Santa Barbara in the consolation game on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Santa Barbara, 1-1, is the team picked to win the Big West Conference.
