Basketball Drop Fourth In A Row Scheer records a double-double in losing effort
Cape Girardeau, Mo. (December 1, 2001) - The Southeast Missouri State basketball Indians played another tough game as they dropped their fourth game in a row to the Leathernecks of Western Illinois, 71-58. The 0-4 start is the first time that has happened to Southeast since 1950. The Indians were down by 12 at the half and Southeast narrowed the margin slightly in the second half, but it was too little, too late as WIU, 4-1, moved the Indians to 0-4. Forward Tim Scheer had career highs in both rebounds and points in 11 and 19, respectively. He shot 7-14 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line. Freshman Derek Winans was the only other Indian in double figures with 11 points. WIU had five players in double figures in points as Shawn Mason led the team with 16. Matt Robins had 14, J.D. Summers had 11 and Quentin Mitchell and Luis Rivas both had 10. Southeast as a team shot only 36 percent from the field in the game and its potent three-point attack was limited to 12.5 percent. WIU shot 49 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc. Southeast next travels on Dec. 5 to Nashville, Tenn. to take on the Commodores of Vanderbilt University. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. |
