Indians Take Out UMKC, 66-58

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Damarcus Hence scored a career-high 25 points and Derek Winans added 20 to lead Southeast Missouri State to a 66-58 win against UMKC Saturday night.

With Southeast Missouri State clinging to a 51-47 advantage with five minutes remaining, senior reserve Demetrius King connected on consecutive 3-pointers from the baseline to put the Indians (4-4) ahead 57-47 with 3:58 to play.

King scored all 10 of his points in the final five minutes.

The Indians connected on 6-of-9 free throws in last 1:03 to preserve the victory.

It was the first meeting ever between the two teams in NCAA Division I. The teams had met previously in the NAIA.

Junior Michael Watson scored 28 points to lead the Kangaroos (0-6). Watson was 7-of-22 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Winans and Tim Scheer had eight rebounds apiece as Southeast Missouri State controlled the backboards 43-33.

James Williams scored 13 for UMKC and Carlton Aaron had a team-high 10 rebounds.
