Drew Three-Pointer With One Second Remaining Gives Redhawks 63-62 Win Over Samford

Birmingham, Ala. - Sophomore Jimmy Drew hit a 25-foot 3-pointer with one second remaining to give Southeast Missouri State a come from behind 63-62 win over Samford. The Redhawks trailed 60-55 with 46-seconds remaining but rallied for the win. Rod Pearson scored on a driving layup with 43-seconds remaining and Drew, who was 4-4 from three, nailed a 3-pointer with 22-seconds left to tie the score at 60. Travis Peterson, who led all scorers with 18 points, hit a pair of free throws with 7.5-seconds remaining to put the Bulldogs up 62-60. The Redhawks threw the ball into Pearson who drove in to the front court and found Drew who hit the contested 25-footer for the victory. Southeast, 7-4 overall and 3-0 and in sole possession of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference, was led by Jaycen Herring with 16 points while Kenard Moore had 13, Drew 12 and Roderick Pearson 11. Samford, 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the OVC, was led by Peterson's 18 while Joe Ross Merrit added 12 and Trey Montgomery 11. The Redhawks continue on the road for a game at Jacksonville State on Thursday, 7:30 p.m. |
