Indians Get Second Of Season Against Lincoln

Winans and Scheer lead all scorers with 21 points

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (December 29, 2001) - Southeast got 21 points from both junior Tim Scheer freshman Derek Winans and put away the Blue Tigers from Lincoln University 77-68. Scheer ended up with 10 rebounds for the double-double, as Southeast moves to 2-8, while Lincoln is now 5-7.

Southeast was down at the half by a score of 40-37, despite an 11 point, seven rebound performance from Scheer. Lincoln shot an amazing 49 percent from the field in the first half, but still could only muster a three-point lead.

The second half saw the Indians come out on fire as Scheer made consecutive baskets to give the Indians a lead at 41-40. They continued the hot shooting as junior Drew DeMond came through with 17 points and seven rebounds, going 9-12 from the free-thrown line. He hit 4-5 from the field for the game.

Southeast opened up a six-point lead midway through the second half, but Lincoln cut the lead to two with 1:01 left. A quick foul by Lincoln's David Atkinson putting DeMond on the line, led to a 9-0 run by Southeast to close out the game capped off by a last-second three-pointer by Winans.

Lincoln was led by Kenny Dye with 17 points and seven rebounds. Teran Tease and Jason Friday both had 14 points and Mario Davis had 10.

Southeast next travels to Macomb, Ill. to take on Western Illinois on Jan. 2. They will open OVC play up on the road Jan. 5 at Eastern Illinois.
