The Teams: Southeast Missouri is 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the OVC. The OVC losses are to Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State. The Indians are 2-5 at the Show Me Center and 0-6 on the road. Eastern Kentucky is 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the OVC with league losses to Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State. Prior to a game Thursday night at Eastern Illinois, Morehead State is 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the OVC. The Eagles have an OVC win over Tennessee State and a loss to Tennessee Tech.

The Series: Southeast leads the EKU series 11-9. The Indians have won the last seven games in the series. The last Colonel win was at EKU in 1998. Southeast leads the Morehead State series 13-7 and has won the last eight games in the series.

The Coaches: Gary Garner is 78-52 in his fifth season at Southeast. He is 325-215 in his 19th season as a collegiate head coach. Garner is 7-1 vs. Eastern Kentucky and is 8-0 vs. Morehead State. Travis Ford 10-29 in his second season at EKU and is 77-60 in his fifth year as a collegiate head coach. He is 0-2 vs. Southeast. Kyle Macy is 43-78 in his fifth season at Morehead State. He is 0-8 vs. Southeast.

Last Outings: Southeast and Eastern Kentucky both lost home games to Tennessee State. The Colonels dropped a 69-68 game last Saturday night while TSU beat Southeast 94-82 on Monday night. The Eagles, who play at Eastern Illinois on Thursday night, lost an 81-78 verdict to OVC favorite Tennessee Tech.

Southeast Basketball Notes

Winans Leads Scorers: Redshirt freshman Derek Winans, who had a career high 29 points vs. Arkansas-Little Rock, leads Southeast in scoring and assists. He averages 15.4 points and 3.3 assists per game. Winans, who was honored as the OVC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, ranks sixth in OVC scoring, seventh in OVC assists and fourth in OVC assist/turnover ratio.

Scheer Has Two Double-Doubles: Junior Tim Scheer recorded his second career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Lincoln. Scheer is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He is also second on the team in 3-point field goal percentage with 18-53 for .340. Scheer had a career high 23 points against North Alabama and Tennessee State.

DeMond Blocks: Drew DeMond is the active OVC career leader in blocked shots with 98. He had 26 blocks as a freshman, 48 as a sophomore and 26 this season. He had a season-high five blocks vs. Vanderbilt. DeMond leads the Indians in rebounding with 6.0 per game.

Hale Top Free Throw Shooter: True freshman Brett Hale has hit 25-28 free throws for a team leading .893 from the line. He averages 9.0 points per game. Hale had a career high 22 points vs. Vanderbilt. He was the OVC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 10.

Johnson Assists: Kenny Johnson, who became eligible at the end of the first semester has 32 assists in just seven games played for an average of 4.6 per game. Johnson, who averages 8.7 points per game, had a career high eight assists vs. Lincoln.

Hence Has Career High vs. MVSU: Sophomore Damarcus Hence, who missed the first three games this season, scored a career high 15 points in the Mississippi Valley State game. He was 6-12 from the field, 1-3 from three and 2-2 from the line.

King Is Instant Offense: Junior Demetrius King has been instant offense. He averages 8.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. King had a career high 17 points and nine rebounds at Vanderbilt. He had 15 points against Southern Illinois.

Gordon Returns To Action: Senior Monte Gordon, who was academically ineligible the first semester, saw his first action of the season in the Lincoln game and has played in all games since then. He averages 6.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Gordon has been slowed by a racing heart that forced him to be hospitalized on Dec. 14 and 15.

Smith Will Redshirt: Justin Smith, a transfer from Arkansas State, could have become eligible for the second semester this season, but coach Gary Garner has decided to redshirt Smith.

Co-Captains: Juniors Drew DeMond and Tim Scheer are co-captains for the 2001-2002 season. They are both two year letter winners.

At The Show Me Center: Southeast is 167-54 (.755) in games played at the Show Me Center which opened in 1987.

Winning Tradition: Only 42 of the nation's 311 Division I basketball teams won more games over the last three seasons than Southeast Missouri. The Indians had 63 wins over the last three years.

SID Streak: Ron Hines, Southeast sports information director has worked 617 consecutive basketball games at Southeast, the longest streak in Division I basketball. He has not missed a game since 1980.

Kerry Robinson Night: Former Southeast baseballs standout Kerry Robinson, now an outfielder with the St. Louis Cardinals, will be honored at Saturday night's game with :Morehead State. Robinson will sign autographs and present NCAA statistical champion and All-America awards to Todd Pennington and Clemente Bonilla.

Next Game: Following the EKU and Morehead State games Southeast goes on the road next week to play at Tennessee-Martin on Thursday night and at Murray State on Saturday ;night. The Murray State game will be televised on WPSD-TV.
