The Teams: Southeast Missouri is 3-12 overall and 1-2 in the OVC. The OVC win was over Eastern Kentucky with losses to Eastern Illinois, Tennessee State and Morehead State. The Indians are 3-6 at the Show Me Center and 0-6 on the road. Tennessee-Martin is 10-5 overall and 2-1 in the OVC with wins over Austin Peay and Tennessee State and a loss to Murray State. Prior to a game Thursday night against Eastern Illinois, Murray State is 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the OVC

The Series: Southeast leads the series with Tennessee-Martin 32-14. Last season Southeast won both games with the Skyhawks, winning 60-49 at the Show Me Center and 81-73 at Skyhawk Arena. Murray State leads the series 30-13 and won both games with the Indians last season, winning 60-58 at the Show Me Center and 65-54 at Murray.

The Coaches: Gary Garner is 79-53 in his fifth season at Southeast. Garner is 7-2 vs. Tennessee-Martin and is 2-8 vs. Murray State. Bret Campbell is 30-42 in his third year at UTM. He is 1-4 vs. Southeast Missouri. Tevester Anderson is 75-35 in his fifth season at Murray State. He is 8-2 vs. Southeast.

Last Outings: Southeast lost a late lead against Morehead State and dropped a 59-53 decision on Saturday night. The Eagles outscored the Indians 9-0 in the final 0:54 to claim the win. Derek Winans led Southeast with 20 points. Tennessee-Martin gained a second straight OVC road win with a 91-78 win over Tennessee State.

Southeast Basketball Notes

Winans is OVC Rookie of the Week: For the third time this season, redshirt freshman Derek Winans has been selected as the OVC Rookie of the Week after averaging 18.3 points per game in three OVC contests last week. He shot 56% from the field, 55% from three and 86% from the line. Winans leads Southeast in scoring and assists. He averages 15.4 points and 3.2 assists per game. In OVC games, Winans averages 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting .488 from the filed, .462 from three and .778 from the line. Winans was also honored as the OVC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 26 and Dec. 3.

Scheer Has Two Double-Doubles: Junior Tim Scheer recorded his second career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Lincoln. Scheer is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He is third on the team in 3-point field goal percentage with 23-64 for .359. Scheer had a career high 23 points against North Alabama.

DeMond Has 103 Blocks: Drew DeMond is the active OVC career leader in blocked shots with 103. He had 26 blocks as a freshman, 48 as a sophomore and 29 this season. He had a season-high five blocks vs. Vanderbilt. DeMond leads the Indians in rebounding with 6.1 per game.

Hale Top Free Throw Shooter: True freshman Brett Hale has hit 25-28 free throws for a team leading .893 from the line. He averages 8.3 points per game. Hale had a career high 22 points vs. Vanderbilt. He was the OVC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 10.

Johnson Assists: Kenny Johnson, who became eligible at the end of the first semester has 40 assists in just nine games played for an average of 4.4 per game. Johnson, who averages 8.4 points per game, had a career high eight assists vs. Lincoln.

Hence Has Career High vs. MVSU: Sophomore Damarcus Hence, who missed the first three games this season, scored a career high 15 points in the Mississippi Valley State game. He was 6-12 from the field, 1-3 from three and 2-2 from the line.

King Struggles For Consistency: Junior Demetrius King has struggled for consistency in his first year with Southeast. He averages 7.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. King had a career high 17 points and nine rebounds at Vanderbilt. He had 15 points against Southern Illinois.

Gordon Returns To Action: Senior Monte Gordon, who was academically ineligible the first semester, saw his first action of the season in the Lincoln game and has played in every game since. He averages 7.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while playing an average of 13.4 minutes per game. Gordon has been slowed by a racing heart that forced him to be hospitalized on Dec. 14 and 15.

Murray State Game Televised: Saturday night's game with Murray State will be televised live on WPSD-TV, the NBC affiliate in Paducah Ky.

Smith Will Redshirt: Justin Smith, a transfer from Arkansas State, could have become eligible for the second semester this season, but coach Gary Garner has decided to redshirt Smith.

Co-Captains: Juniors Drew DeMond and Tim Scheer are co-captains for the 2001-2002 season. They are both two year letter winners.

At The Show Me Center: Southeast is 168-55 (.755) in games played at the Show Me Center which opened in 1987.

Winning Tradition: Only 42 of the nation's 311 Division I basketball teams won more games over the last three seasons than Southeast Missouri. The Indians had 63 wins over the last three years.

SID Streak: Ron Hines, Southeast sports information director has worked 619 consecutive basketball games at Southeast, the longest streak in Division I basketball. He has not missed a game since 1980.

Next Game: Following the road games with Tennessee-Martin and Murray State, Southeast will return to the Show Me Center to host league leader Tennessee Tech on Thursday, Jan. 24. 7:30 p.m. and Austin Peay on Saturday, Jan. 26, 1 p.m. The Austin Peay game will be televised by Fox Sports Net South.
