The Teams: Southeast Missouri is 3-14 overall and 1-5 in the OVC. The OVC win was over Eastern Kentucky with losses to Eastern Illinois, Tennessee State, Morehead State, Tennessee-Martin and Murray State. The Indians are 3-6 at the Show Me Center and 0-8 on the road. League leading Tennessee Tech is 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the OVC. Prior to a game at Eastern Illinois on Thursday night, Austin Peay is 9-11 overall and 4-2 in the OVC.

The Series: The series with Tennessee Tech is tied 10-10. Southeast leads the series with Austin Peay 13-11.

The Coaches: Gary Garner is 79-55 in his fifth season at Southeast and is 326-218 in his 19th year as a collegiate head coach. Jeff Lebo is 60-40 in his fourth season at Tennessee Tech. Dave Loos is 170-166 in his 12th year at Austin Peay and is 251-219 in his 16th season as a collegiate head coach.

Last Outings: Southeast Missouri lost at Murray State 85-72 on Saturday night. Tim Scheer and Derek Winans led the Indians with 14 points each. Winans was the top rebounder with seven. Tennessee Tech remained unbeaten in the OVC with a 83-75 win over Tennessee-Martin on Monday night. Damien Kinloch led the Golden Eagles with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Peay jumped to a 45-20 halftime lead and romped past Tennessee State 81-68 on Saturday night.

Southeast Basketball Notes

The Derek Winans Award: Perhaps that should be the new name for the OVC Rookie of the Week Award. For the fourth time this season, Winans has been selected as the OVC Rookie of the Week after averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in OVC games at Tennessee-Martin and at Murray State. per game in three OVC contests last week. It was the second straight week, Winans had garnered the award. Winans was also honored as the OVC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and Jan. 14.

Winans Leads The Way: Winans leads the Indians in scoring (15.4 ppg), 3-pointers (34), steals (19), minutes played (34..6 pg) and is second in assists (44) and free throw percentage (.816) and third in rebounding (4.4 pg).

Scheer Has Two Double-Doubles: Junior Tim Scheer recorded his second career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Lincoln. Scheer is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He is third on the team in 3-point field goal percentage with 23-65 for .354. Scheer had a career high 23 points against North Alabama.

DeMond Has 105 Blocks: Drew DeMond is the active OVC career leader in blocked shots with 105. He had 26 blocks as a freshman, 48 as a sophomore and 31 this season. He had a season-high five blocks vs. Vanderbilt. DeMond leads the Indians in rebounding with 5.9 per game and is fourth in the OVC in blocked shots with 1.9 per game.

Hale Top Free Throw Shooter: True freshman Brett Hale has hit 33-36 free throws for a team leading .917 from the line. He is just one made free throw short of qualifying for the OVC rankings in free throws (2.0 made per game minimum). The .917 would lead the OVC. Hale averages 8.3 points per game. Hale had a career high 22 points vs. Vanderbilt. He was the OVC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 10.

Johnson Assists: Kenny Johnson, who became eligible at the end of the first semester has a team-high 49 assists in just 11 games played for an average of 4.5 per game. Johnson, who averages 8.8 points per game, had a career high eight assists vs. Lincoln.

Hence Back In Starting Lineup: Sophomore Damarcus Hence returned to the starting lineup for the Murray State game and produced 12 points, three rebounds two assists and two blocks. He had 14 points in last Thursday night's game against Tennessee-Martin.

Gordon Returns To Action: Senior Monte Gordon, who was academically ineligible the first semester, saw his first action of the season in the Lincoln game and has played in every game since. He averages 6.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while playing an average of 15 minutes per game. Gordon has been slowed by a racing heart that forced him to be hospitalized on Dec. 14 and 15.

Austin Peay Game Televised: Saturday's game with Austin Peay will be televised live on Fox Sports Net South which goes into over 11-million homes in the southern United States.

Co-Captains: Juniors Drew DeMond and Tim Scheer are co-captains for the 2001-2002 season. They are both two year letter winners.

At The Show Me Center: Southeast is 168-55 (.755) in games played at the Show Me Center which opened in 1987. Southeast leads the OVC in attendance with an average of 4,022 per game.

Winning Tradition: Only 42 of the nation's 311 Division I basketball teams won more games over the last three seasons than Southeast Missouri. The Indians had 63 wins over the last three years.

SID Streak: Ron Hines, Southeast sports information director has worked 621 consecutive basketball games at Southeast, the longest streak in Division I basketball. He has not missed a game since 1980.

Next Game: Following the home games with Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay, the Indians go on the road for four straight games beginning with a game at Tennessee State on Thursday, Jan. 31 and at Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Feb. 2.
