THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the OVC after upsetting Murray State 78-68 Saturday night and losing a non-league game at Western Illinois on Tuesday. The Indians have wins over Central Methodist, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Oakland City, Missouri-Kansas City, Southwest Missouri, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. The losses have been to Arkansas State, Indiana State, Tulane, Southern Illinois, Arkansas-Little Rock, Creighton, Eastern Illinois, Morehead State, Tennessee-Martin and Western Illinois. Austin Peay is 8-6 overall and 1-2 in the OVC prior to a Thursday night home game with Eastern Illinois. The Governors are 5-0 at home this season.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 89-73 in his sixth season at Southeast and is 336-237 in his 20th season as a collegiate head coach. Dave Loos is 184-179 in his 14th year at Austin Peay and is 265-232 as a collegiate head coach.

THE SERIES: Austin Peay leads the series 14-13 and has won the last five games in the series.

LAST SEASON: Austin Peay won both games, winning 68-67 at the Show Me Center and 80-47 at the Dunn Center.

SOUTHEAST NOTES

Good At The Line: Southeast is shooting .731 from the free throw line. Two players are shooting over 90% from the line. Brett Hale leads the OVC with 39-42 for .929 while Cole Grapperhaus is 10-11 for .909.

Griffin Leads OVC in Rebounding, Ranks 10th Nationally: Junior college transfer Brandon Griffin, a three-time OVC Newcomer of the Week, is the leading rebounder in the OVC with an average of 10.3 boards per game which ranks him 10th nationally. He also leads in offensive rebounding with 4.1 per game. Griffin is averaging a double-double with 11.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Griffin had 22 points and 11 rebounds against SIU and was the leading rebounder in the University Hoops Classic and was named to the all-tournament team. He had 33 rebounds in the three tournament games. Griffin had 14 points and four rebounds against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 17 points and 11 rebounds against Indiana State and 14 points and eight rebounds vs. Tulane. Griffin has seven double-doubles this season. Against 13th ranked Creighton, Griffin had 9 points, 9 assists and 13 rebounds.

Hale Tops OVC Free Throw Shooters: Sophomore guard Brett Hale hit 9-10 free throws vs. UTM and 6-6 vs. Murray State to move into the league lead in free throw shooting. Hale is 39-42 for .929.

Roberts Leads OVC in Assist/Turnover Ratio: Sophomore point guard Kevin Roberts leads the OVC in assist/turnover ratio with 3.07 Derek Winans is third with 1.73. In the win over Murray State, Roberts had 11 assists, six steals and two points. He came back with 11 assists vs. Western Illinois to give him 22 assists in the last two games with only one turnover. Scheer Goes Over 400 Rebounds, Nears 800 Points: Senior Tim Scheer has played in 82 games at Southeast and has 771 career points and 425 career rebounds. He is the fifth leading active career rebounder in the OVC.

Winans Selected 2nd Team Preseason All-OVC: Derek Winans, last season's OVC Freshman of the Year, was named second team preseason All-OVC in voting by coaches and sports information directors. A 4.0 student, Winans is a two-time OVC Medal of Honor winner. This season, Winans leads the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game and assists with 4.1 per game. He had a double-double vs. SMS with career high 10 assists and 17 points. Winans had a career high 33 points in Tuesday night's loss at Western Illinois. He was 14-19 from the floor and 5-9 from three.

Hence Bounces Back: Junior Damarcus Hence played only eight-minutes in the loss at Western Illinois because of an intestinal problem that sent him to the hospital on Monday. He missed practice all last week after having two teeth removed, but came off the bench to score 22 points and pull down six rebounds against UTM He was 10-15 from the field and 2-2 from the line. Hence again came off the bench on Saturday night and tallied 15 points and three rebounds against Murray State. Hence scored a career high 25 points at UMKC. He currently averages 12.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Hence is the second leading scorer and rebounder for the Indians.

King Suffers Knee Injury: Demetrius King, who has been leading the OVC in 3-point field goal percentage, suffered a knee injury in the Morehead State game and was forced to miss the Tennessee-Martin and Murray State games. He played 12-minutes against Western Illinois and was 0-2 from three. On the season he is shooting .438 from three while averaging 7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Golson Will Seek Medical Redshirt: Junior college transfer Reggie Golson will seek a medical redshirt after appearing in only one game this season. He saw his first and only playing time in the win over Oakland City. He scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds in just 14-minutes playing time. Golson was 5-9 from the field. Golson, who has been recovering from minor knee surgery in September, has not played since that game and will seek a medical redshirt that will give him two years of eligibility remaining beginning next season.

Crader Off The Bench: Sophomore Adam Crader, 6-11, came off the bench to score a career high seven points at Morehead State. He also had two rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 15-minutes of action. For the season, Crader, who suffered a displaced jaw in practice on Jan. 14, averages 1.9 points and 1.6 rebounds per game in 16 games played.

Grapperhaus Contributes: True freshman Cole Grapperhaus got his first career start at Eastern Kentucky. He scored five key points in just three-minutes played in the win over Murray State He was 2-2 from the field and 1-1 from the line.. On the season, Grapperhaus has played in 11 games averaging 1.6 points and 0.7 rebounds per game. Roster Addition: The Indians have added an additional walk-on to the roster. Lawrence Graves, 6-2 guard from Poplar Bluff, will wear number 30. He is a senior who attended Mineral Area CC.

FOX Sports Net South Television: The Austin Peay game will be televised on Fox Sports Net South that goes into over 9.2-million homes in the southern United States. The game will also be shown on Charter Digital Cable Channel 351 in Cape Girardeau. Paul Crane will do the play-by-play with former collegiate coach Tom Apke providing commentary.

Southeast on Radio: All Southeast games can be heard on the Indian Radio Network anchored by flagship station K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Erik Sean does play-by-play while Todd Bonacki will provide commentary for home game with Ron Hines providing commentary for the road games. The games can also be heard over the internet at GoSoutheast.com or K103FM.com.

Gary Garner Radio Show: Gary Garner has a live radio show on KGIR, 1220 AM, each Wednesday at 6 p.m. The show is hosted by Erik Sean and originates from Show Me's Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.

SID Streak: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 651 consecutive basketball games at Southeast. The streak is the longest in Division I basketball. Hines has not missed a game since 1980.

Next Game: Southeast will return to the Show Me Center for games against Tennessee State on Thursday, Jan. 30 and Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Feb. 1. The TSU game will tip at 7 p.m. with the Tech game at 7:30 p.m.
