THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri State is 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast has OVC wins over Tennessee State and Tennessee-Martin with losses to Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay , Murray State and Eastern Illinois. In non-conference action Southeast has wins over Truman State, Missouri-Rolla, Robert Morris, Cleveland State, Southern Illinois, Southwest Missouri, Campbell, Jackson State and Morris Brown with losses to Toledo, Mississippi Valley State, and Houston.

Morehead State is 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the OVC prior to a Thursday night home contest with Eastern Illinois. Eastern Kentucky is 6-10 overall and 0-6 in the OVC prior to a Saturday night home contest with Eastern Illinois.

COACHES: Gary Garner is 69-37 in his fourth season at Southeast and is 316-200 in his 18th year as a collegiate head coach. championship when he guided Fort Hays State to a 34-0 season He won a Division II national in 1995-96. Known for having teams ready at tournament time, Garner has taken teams to the finals of conference tournaments in six of the last seven years and has won five of those title contests. Prior to a Thursday night home game with Eastern Illinois, Kyle Macy is 34-64 in his fourth season at Morehead State. Travis Ford is 6-10 in his first year at Eastern Kentucky and is 73-41 in his fourth season as a collegiate head coach.

THE SERIES: Southeast leads the series with Morehead State 10-7 and has won the last six games in the series including three wins in a row at Morehead. The Southeast vs. Eastern Kentucky series is tied 9-9. The Indians have won five straight in the series including the last two games at Richmond.

SOUTHEAST DEFENSE TOPS OVC: Southeast leads the OVC in field goal percentage defense, 3-point field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. The Indians allow opponents to shoot just .405 from the field and .307 from three while allowing just 66.6 points per game.

INDIAN 3-POINT PERCENTAGE 19th NATIONALLY: The Southeast 3-point field goal percentage of .400 is second best in the OVC and ranks 19th nationally.

SANDERS RANKS SECOND NATIONALLY IN 3-POINT FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE: Senior guard Amory Sanders leads the OVC and ranks second nationally in 3-point field goal percentage. He is 40-70 for .571. Sanders was 5-5 vs. Tennessee State, 5-7 vs. Morris Brown and 7-10 from three against Robert Morris.

STOKES TAKES OVER SCORING LEAD: Senior guard Michael Stokes has taken over the team scoring lead and now leads the team in scoring, assists, steals, free throw percentage and minutes played. He is third in rebounding. Stokes averages 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. He is shooting .417 from the field, .325 from three and .797 from the line while playing 33.9 minutes per game. He was named to the 40th Annual SunClassic all-tournament team after scoring 21 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and handing out four assists in the Indians consolation round win over Jackson State. It was the first double-double for a Southeast player this season. Stokes was the OVC Player of the Week on Dec. 18.

McCUTHISON LEADS TEAM IN REBOUNDING: Senior Emmanuel McCuthison is the Southeast leader in rebounds and is second in scoring. He is averaging 13.4.points and 5.4 rebounds per game. McCuthison had a career high 29 points against Southern Illinois. Against SIU, McCuthison sizzled in the first half when he scored 20 points with 6-10 from the field, 4-5 from three and 4-6 from the line. For the game, McCuthison, nicknamed e-mail, was 9-18 from the field, 6-9 from three and 5-8 from the line. Earlier this season, he was named to the all-tournament team in the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament in Kansas City

DEMOND ESTABLISHES NEW SUN CLASSIC RECORD: Drew DeMond established a new SunClassic tournament record for blocked shots with eight against Jackson State. DeMond's eight blocks also tied the Don Haskins Center record for blocked shots. After 17 games played this season, DeMond is second in the OVC with 31 blocks.

CAREER HIGH FOR SCHEER: Tim Scheer came off the bench to sc ore a career high 17 points in the win over Tennessee-Martin. He also tied his career high for rebounds with seven. In the last three games, Scheer is averaging 12.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

ROGERS IS HOT: Southeast junior post player Terry Rogers is on a hot streak, connecting on 20 of his last 32 field goal attempts (.625) over the past six games. In the last six games, Rogers has averaged 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Rogers was 6-6 from the field in a win over Tennessee State, 4-5 from the field in a loss to Austin Peay, 4-5 from the field against Murray State and 3-4 vs. Tennessee-.Martin.He was OVC Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 8.

SHORT IS STRONG VS. MURRAY: In the recent two-point loss to Murray State, Antonio Short led Southeast scorers with 17 points. He was 5-7 from the field, 3-4 from three and 4-5 from the line. He also had 3 assists while playing 38-minutes. On the season, Short averages 11.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. He is shooting .434 from the floor and .355 from three.

INJURIES: Amory Sanders continues to be bothered by a deep stone bruise on his foot. He missed three games with the injury but has returned to action on a limited basis. Drew DeMond continues to play despite a painful groin pull. Senior guard Matt Morris has not played this season because of mononucleosis.

AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast is 6-2 at the Show Me Center this season and is 161-47 (.772) since the Show Me Center opened in 1987. Last season, Southeast again led the OVC in attendance with 5,066 fans per game. After six home games this season, Southeast averages 5,037 fans per game.

SCHUBERTH MOVES TO TOP OF BEST DRESSED LIST: Southeast assistant coach Tom Schuberth is currently ranked first nationally on the latest Fashion Power Index for Assistant Coaches compiled by collegeinsider.com. Schuberth was ranked seventh, and fourth before moving to the top spot in the latest listing. The Schuberth wardrobe includes 73 suits (36 Giorgio Armani suits), 70 pair of shoes, 40 dress slacks, 18 sport coats, and over 100 dress shirts.

SID STREAK: Southeast sports information director Ron Hines has worked a nation leading 590 consecutive basketball games. Hines has not missed an Indian basketball game since 1980.

NEXT: Following the road games at Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky, the Indians return to the Show Me Center for a Feb. 1 game against Austin Peay. The Austin Peay game will be televised by Fox Sports Network South with Dave Weekley doing play-by-play and Greg Turner color.
