Q: Was Matt Morris red-shirted this year? Also, why do you never full-court press?
-Daniel Fultz, Cape Girardeau

A: We are asking for a medical redshirt for Matt. If the NCAA grants the redshirt, Morris will have one more year of eligibility.

As for the pressing, we have the top-rated defense in the OVC and we work very hard at our half court man-to-man defense. With this year's team, a full-court defense is just not a part of our defensive scheme.

Q: How are the three redshirts (Joe Webb, Derek Winans, and Bobby Smith) coming along?
-Brian Anderson, Cape Girardeau

A: Joe Webb is no longer on the team. Derek Winans and Bobby Smith both practice with the team and are doing very well. They both have bright futures at Southeast.

Q: This year, some of our high school boys seem to struggle with their defensive skills. Is it possible to teach (or coach) a poor defensive player into a good or excellent one, or is that God-given talent?
-Keith Davidson, Sikeston, Mo.

A: You can improve a player's defensive skills and you can teach a player team defensive skills. Some players may not be godo one-one-one defensive players, but you can still teach them how to be excellent team defensive players.
