Redhawks Go For Sweep Of Murray State

THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri State is 8-13 overall and 6-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Redhawks have won five of their last seven games including a 61-59 road win at Morehead State on Wednesday night.

Murray State is 8-11 overall and 6-5 in the OVC.

THE COACHES: Southeast Missouri is under the direction of new head coach Scott Edgar, an assistant at Tennessee last season, who has served as head coach at Duquesne and Murray State. He has also been an assistant at Tulsa, Arkansas and Alabama-Birmingham. His collegiate head coaching record is 116-108 in his eighth season. Edgar is 1-0 vs. Murray State.

Billy Kennedy is in his first season at Murray State with a record of 8-11. Kennedy formerly served as head coach at Southeastern Louisiana and Centenary. He has a collegiate coaching record of 110-136 in his ninth season.

THE SERIES: Murray State leads the series 49-16.

EARLIER GAME: Southeast beat Murray State 96-85 on Jan. 8. Brandon Foust led Southeast with 23 points and nine rebounds.

**REDHAWKS NOTES**

WILLOUGHBY IS BACK: Senior guard Terrick Willoughby returned to action at Morehead State after missing four games with mononucleosis. He had six points in 24 minutes of action at Morehead. Willoughby is scheduled to start against Murray State.

80 POINTS IS A KEY: The Redhawks are 5-1 when scoring 80 or more points. The Redhawks scored 81 points in a win over Tennessee-Martin, 88 at Eastern Kentucky, 80 vs. Eastern Illinois, 96 at Murray State and 92 vs. Tennessee State. Southeast leads the OVC in scoring in conference games only with 78.3 points per game.

10 TREYS HELP: Southeast has made 10 or more 3-pointers in six of its eight wins this season. The Redhawks had 13 3-pointers in Thursday's win over Tennessee State.

FOUST AGAIN VOTED OVC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Foust has been named the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second straight week. He averaged 17.5 points per game while shooting .667 from the field, .833 from three and .667 from the line in games against Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech. Foust also added 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks. He scored 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting (including 4-of-4 from 3-point range) in the win over TSU.

Foust was the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 15 after averaging a double-double in games against Murray State and Austin Peay.

Foust averaged 19 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in contests against Murray State and Austin Peay. Fosut had 23 points and nine rebounds in a win at Murray State and 15 points and 12 rebounds in a one-point loss at APSU.

A transfer from Oklahoma, Foust leads the Redhawks in scoring and rebounding with 12.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR REMBERT: Junior Michael Rembert, a transfer from Bradley, had a double-double against Tennessee State with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Rembert averages 9.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He had the game winning tip in with just one second remaining at Morehead State.

PEARSON VOTED OVC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Freshman point guard Roderick Pearson was voted the OVC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 8 after he recorded his first collegiate double-double at Eastern Kentucky with 22 points and 11 assists and came back with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists vs. Eastern Illinois.

For the two games, Pearson averaged 13 points and seven assists per game while shooting 63% from the floor, 60% from three and 90% from the line. He leads the OVC in assist/TO ratio for conference games only.

JOHNSON MOVES UP: Junior guard David Johnson is the Redhawks leading scorer in OVC games with an average of 14.5 points per game. He has fully recovered from hernia surgery that forced him to miss all but three games last season. Johnson, who had a career high 23 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's loss to Tennessee Tech, averages 12 points and 3.6 rebounds per game on the season.

HILL FINDS THE RANGE: Freshman guard Johnny Hill entered the Murray State game shooting just .195 from three, but against the Racers he connected on his first three treys and ended the night with a career high 16 points including 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from three. Hill currently averages 3.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

RAYTOWN DUO: Roderick Pearson and JaJuan Maxwell are both from Raytown, Mo. (a suburb of Kansas City), but played at rival high schools. Pearson, a jet quick guard who started the Jacksonville State game, played at Raytown South while Maxwell, a versatile 6-6 player, played for Raytown High School.

Pearson averages 7.5 points per game with a high of 22 points at Eastern Kentucky, while Maxwell, who had a career high 15 points at Purdue, averages 5.8 points and 2,8 rebounds per game. -Tournament team. He currently leads the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game and is tied for the lead in rebounding with 5.4 rebounds per game.

AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: The Redhawks are 4-4 at the Show Me Center this season and are 204-86 (.703) since the facility opened in 1987. Southeast leads the OVC in attendance.

NEXT FOR THE REDHAWKS: The Redhawks will host league leading Austin Peay on Monday, Jan. 29. Following the Austin Peay game, Southeast will go on the road to play at Tennessee-Martin next Saturday night
