THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 10-16 overall and 4-9 in the OVC after beating Western Illinois 53-52 on Tuesday night to end a five-game losing streak. The Indians have wins over Central Methodist, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Oakland City, Missouri-Kansas City, Southwest Missouri, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Western Illinois. The losses have been to Arkansas State, Indiana State, Tulane, Southern Illinois, Arkansas-Little Rock, Creighton, Eastern Illinois (2), Morehead State (2), Tennessee-Martin (2), Western Illinois, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. Austin Peay went into a game at Eastern Illinois on Thursday night with a nine-game OVC win streak and a record of 17-6 overall and 10-2 in the OVC.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 92-79 in his sixth season at Southeast and is 339-243 in his 20th season as a collegiate head coach. Dave Loos is 192-179 in his 13th year at Austin Peay and is 274-232 in his 17th year as a collegiate head coach.

THE SERIES: Austin Peay leads the Southeast series 15-13 and has won the last six games.

EARLIER GAMES: Austin Peay beat the Indians 62-49 on Jan. 25 in Clarksville, Tenn. Josh Lewis led Austin Peay with 23 points and nine rebounds while Tim Scheer led Southeast with 15 points.

SOUTHEAST NOTES

Senior Night: The three Southeast seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the Austin Peay game. Tim Scheer has been on the team for four years, Demetrius King for two years and Lawrence Graves for one year.

Southeast Leads Nation In Assists: In the latest NCAA Division I stats, Southeast leads the nation in assists with 18.6 per game through games of Feb. 17. Southeast ranks eighth nationally in three-point field goal percentage with 40.1.

Southeast in OVC Stats: Southeast leads the league in assists (18.54) and assist/turnover ratio (1.33). Individual OVC leaders include Brandon Griffin in offensive rebounds (3.8) and Kevin Roberts in assists with 6.42 per game and assist to turnover ratio.

Scheer Suffers Knee Injury: Senior Tim Scheer suffered a knee injury in the Murray State game. An MRI on Monday revealed a partially torn knee ligament that will sideline him indefinitely. After 88 games at Southeast, he has 895 career points and 304 career rebounds.. This season, Scheer is the Indians' second leading scorer with 13.1 points per game.

Roberts Assists: Sophomore Kevin Roberts leads the OVC in assists and assist/turnover ratio. He is ranked 16th nationally in NCAA Division I. Roberts averages 6.4 assists per game with an assist/turnover ratio of 3.4. His 13 assists vs. Morehead State tied the Southeast record for assists in a game. His 155 assists already this season ranks as the fifth highest single season total in Southeast history. Roberts has 197 career assists and needs just 29 more assists to move into the 10th spot on the all-time assist chart at Southeast.

Griffin Leads League In Offensive Rebounds: Junior college transfer Brandon Griffin, was has been selected as the OVC Newcomer of the Week four times this season, leads the league in offensive rebounds with 3.8 per game and is t\second in total rebounds with 10.6 per game. He ranks 12th nationally in rebounding. Griffin has 12 double-doubles this season, Griffin, who is averaging a double-double with 12.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, has 12 double-doubles this season and has recorded double-doubles in five of his last seven games. Griffin was the leading rebounder in the University Hoops Classic and was named to the all-tournament team. He had 33 rebounds in the three tournament games. Against nationally ranked Creighton, Griffin had 9 points, 9 assists and 13 rebounds. He has double figure rebounding in 18 of 26 games played.

Hale Tops OVC Free Throw Shooters: Sophomore guard Brett is 52-56 from the free throw line this season for .929, tops in the OVC. He made 22 straight free throws before missing his only free throw on Thursday at UTM. In his two seasons at Southeast, Hale is 88-96 from the line for a career percentage of .916.

Winans Ranked in Five OVC Stat Categories: Derek Winans, last season's OVC Freshman of the Year, is ranked in the OVC's top 10 in five different statistical categories. In the latest OVC stats, Winans ranks fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6), 10th in scoring (15.0), sixth in assists (3.9), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.415), and fifth in 3-point field goals made (2.32). Winans leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game and is second in assists with 3.9 per game. He had a double-double vs. SMS with career high 10 assists and 17 points. Winans had a career high 33 points in the loss at Western Illinois. He was 14-19 from the floor and 5-9 from three. A 4.0 student, Winans is a two-time OVC Medal of Honor winner. Hence Bounces Back: Junior Damarcus Hence who has been slowed by injuries and illness, has rebounded to average 13 points per game over the last three games. In the three games he is 18-35 (.514) from the field. . Hence scored a career high 25 points at UMKC. He currently averages 10.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Hence is the second leading rebounder for the Indians.

King Suffers Knee Injury: Demetrius King, was leading the OVC in 3-point field goal percentage (.483) whe he suffered a knee injury in the Morehead State game on Jan. 11. He was forced to miss the Tennessee-Martin and Murray State games and since returning to play was just 1-11 from three before going 2-2 at Murray State. On the season he is shooting .370 from three while averaging 5.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Grapperhaus Contributes: True freshman Cole Grapperhaus had a career high six points and seven rebounds vs. Tennessee State. He scored five key points in just three-minutes played in the win over Murray State He was 2-2 from the field and 1-1 from the line.. On the season, Grapperhaus has played in 18 games averaging 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Crader Sidelined With Bad Back: Sophomore Adam Crader, 6-11, who came off the bench to score a career high seven points at Morehead State, is probable for the Western Illinois game after back spasms that forced him to miss the last six games. Crader averages 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

Golson Will Seek Medical Redshirt: Junior college transfer Reggie Golson will seek a medical redshirt after appearing in only one game this season. He saw his first and only playing time in the win over Oakland City. He scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds in just 14-minutes playing time. Golson was 5-9 from the field. Golson, who has been recovering from minor knee surgery in September, has not played since that game and will seek a medical redshirt that will leave him with two years of eligibility remaining beginning next season.

Gary Garner Radio Show: Gary Garner has a live radio show on KGIR, 1220 AM, each Wednesday at 6 p.m. The show is hosted by Erik Sean and originates from Show Me's Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.

SID Streak: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 660 consecutive basketball games at Southeast. The streak is the longest in Division I basketball. Hines has not missed a game since 1980.
