THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri State finished the regular season 18-11 overall and 8-8 and in fifth place in the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast has OVC wins over Tennessee State, Tennessee-Martin (2), Morehead State (2), Eastern Kentucky (2) and Eastern Illinois with losses to Tennessee Tech (2), Austin Peay (2), Murray State (2), Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State. In non-conference action Southeast has wins over Truman State, Missouri-Rolla, Robert Morris, Cleveland State, Southern Illinois, Southwest Missouri, Campbell, Jackson State and Morris Brown (2) with losses to Toledo, Mississippi Valley State, and Houston.

Austin Peay finished the regular season 20-9 overall and 10-6 and in fourth place in the OVC.

COACHES: Gary Garner is 76-40 in his fourth season at Southeast and is 323-204 in his 18th year as a collegiate head coach.

He won a Division II national championship in 1995-96 when he guided Fort Hays State to a 34-0 record.

Known for having teams ready at tournament time, Garner has taken teams to the finals of conference tournaments in six of the last seven years and has won five of those title contests

Garner is 5-4 vs. Austin Peay.

In OVC Tournament games, Garner is 5-2.

Dave Loos is 159-154 in his 11th season at Austin Peay and is 241-207 in his 15th season as a collegiate head coach.

THE SERIES: The series is tied 11-11.

EARLIER MEETINGS: Austin Peay won both the regular season games between the schools winning 88-60 on Jan. 6 in Clarksville and winning 77-72 on Feb. 1 at the Show Me Center.

SOUTHEAST IN THE OVC TOURNEY: Southeast is in the OVC Tournament for the fifth straight year after becoming eligible for tournament play in 1997. The Indians, defending tournament champions, are 5-3 in tournament play and have advanced to the finals the past two seasons. Southeast and Austin Peay have met once previously in OVC tournament action with the Governors claiming an opening round 76-46 win at Clarksville in 1998.

FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK: The Indians ended the regular season by winning five straight games for their longest winning streak of the season. In the streak Southeast has wins over Tennessee-Martin, Morris Brown, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. Last season's longest win streak was six games which included the final three regular season games and three games in the OVC tournament. The streak was ended by Louisiana State in the NCAA Tournament.

SANDERS OUT FOR THE SEASON: Amory Sanders, the national leader in 3-point field goal percentage, has been lost for the remainder of the season after tearing a tendon in the little finger on his shooting hand. The injury occurred during last Thursday night's game with Eastern Kentucky. Sanders will have surgery on the finger. He was 1-1 from three in his final game to give him season totals of 53-95 for .558.

SOUTHEAST DEFENSE TOPS OVC: Southeast leads the OVC in field goal percentage defense, 3-point field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. The Indians allow opponents to shoot just .417 from the field and .326 from three while allowing just 68 points per game.

TORRID SHOOTING: During the current five-game 0win streak, Southeast is shooting .555 from the field, .427 from three and .813 from the line.

SOUTHEAST RANKS 17th NATIONALLY IN 3-POINT FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE: In the latest NCAA Division I stats, Southeast ranks 17th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage. The Indians are 203-516 for .393.

FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE IS A KEY: Southeast is 16-2 this season when shooting 44% or better from the field.

FREE THROW PERCENTAGE IS UP: The Indians are shooting .791 from the line in OVC games. Overall, the Indians have improved their free throw percentage to .737. Last year's NCAA Tournament team shot .702 from the line.

STOKES MOVES UP ON ALL-TIME ASSIST LIST: Michael Stokes has moved up to eighth place on the all-time assist list at Southeast. He has 267 assists in his two seasons at Southeast and has the highest total for a two-year player. The previous high for a two-year player was 225 by Anthony Hall (1984-86)/

STOKES LEADS IN SIX CATEGORIES: Senior guard Michael Stokes leads the team in scoring, assists, assist/turnover ratio, steals, free throw percentage and minutes played. He is third in rebounding.

Stokes. who had a career high 27 points against Tennessee State, averages 14.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. He is shooting .448 from the field, .341 from three and .824 from the line while playing 35.6 minutes per game.

Stokes has two double-doubles this season with 21 points and 10 rebounds vs. Jackson State and 15 points and 10 assists at Tennessee Tech.

He was named to the 40th Annual SunClassic all-tournament team after scoring 21 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and handing out four assists in the Indians consolation round win over Jackson State.

Stokes was the OVC Player of the Week on Dec. 18.

MCCUTHISON LEADS TEAM ON BOARDS: Senior Emmanuel McCuthison is the Southeast leader in rebounds and is second in scoring. He is averaging 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

McCuthison had a career high 29 points against Southern Illinois. Against SIU, McCuthison sizzled in the first half when he scored 20 points with 6-10 from the field, 4-5 from three and 4-6 from the line. For the game, McCuthison, nicknamed e-mail, was 9-18 from the field, 6-9 from three and 5-8 from the line.

Earlier this season, he was named to the all-tournament team in the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament in Kansas City

DEMOND ESTABLISHES NEW SUN CLASSIC RECORD: Drew DeMond established a new SunClassic tournament record for blocked shots with eight against Jackson State. DeMond's eight blocks also tied the Don Haskins Center record for blocked shots.

DeMond is second in the OVC with 48 blocks.

DEMOND SHOOTING IMPROVES: After a slow start at the free throw line, DeMond connected on 24 straight free throws before missing his final free throw at Murray State.

After hitting 44 of his last 47 free tosses (.936) DeMond is 59-77 for .766. In conference games only, DeMond ranks second in the OVC with 39-43 for ..907.

In the last seven games, DeMond is 31-40 from the field for .775.

SCHEER COMING ON: Sophomore Tim Scheer is averaging 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in OVC games. In the league, he shot .495 from the field, .350 from three and .625 from the line while playing an average of 18 minutes per game

Scheer came off the bench to score a career high 17 points in the home win over Tennessee-Martin. He had a career high nine rebounds at Eastern Kentucky.

SHORT IS STEADY: Senior guard Antonio Short continues to be a steadying force both offensively and defensively. He averages 10.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while playing an average of 29.9 minutes per game. He is shooting .428 from the field, .385 from three and .701 from the line.

POST BY COMMITTEE: Southeast has started four different players at the post position this season. Terry Rogers has eight starts, Nyah Jones 12 starts, Daniel Weaver nine starts and Tim Scheer one.

HENCE CONTRIBUTES: Redshirt freshman Damarcus Hence has made solid contributions in the last six games when he has averaged 6.5 points per game while shooting 16-32 (.500) from the field.

JONES AWAKENS: Senior center Nyah Jones came alive the final two games of the regular season. After averaging only four points and 2.5 rebounds per game, Jones had seven points and six rebounds in 19 minutes played against Eastern Kentucky and came back with 10 points and nine rebounds in a starting role against Morehead State.

INJURIES: In addition to Sanders season ending injury, Southeast will seek a medical redshirt for senior guard Matt Morris who has not played this season because of mononucleosis.

Freshman point guard Joel Shelton has missed the last two games with the flu.

AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast was 10-4 at the Show Me Center this season and is 164-49 (.768) since the Show Me Center opened in 1987.

Last season, Southeast again led the OVC in attendance with 5,066 fans per game.

This season, Southeast averaged a league high 5,054 fans per game.

NEXT: The winner of the Southeast vs. Austin Peay game will advance to the OVC semi-finals on Friday, 6 p.m., at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville. The opponent will be the winner of the Tennessee Tech vs. Tennessee-Martin game.

The Schuberth wardrobe includes 73 suits (36 Giorgio Armani suits), 70 pair of shoes, 40 dress slacks, 18 sport coats, and over 100 dress shirts.

SID STREAK: Southeast sports information director Ron Hines has worked a nation leading 601 consecutive basketball games. Hines has not missed an Indian basketball game since the 1980-81 season.
