Redhawks Host Samford on Thursday

BASKETBALL GAME INFORMATION

THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 12-16 overall and 7-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Redhawks, who have lost 11 of their last 12 games, ended a six-game losing streak with a 121-116 triple overtime win over league leading Austin Peay on Jan. 29, but have lost six straight since. Samford is 13-14 overall and 9-9 in the OVC.

THE COACHES: Scott Edgar is 23-37 in his second season as head coach at Southeast after previous head coaching stints at Murray State and Duquesne. His collegiate record is 131-132 in his ninth year as a head coach.

Jimmy Tillett is 178-143 in his 11th season at Samford.

THE SERIES: Samford leads the series 6-4.

**REDHAWKS NOTES**.

REDHAWKS TOURNEY BEGINS: Southeast goes into the final two games of the season needing to win both games and get some help in order to secure a spot in the OVC Tournament. Southeast, Samford, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech are still alive in the race for the three tournament berths still available. A loss in either game would eliminate Southeast from the tournament.

SCORING MILESTONES: During the Eastern Kentucky game on Feb. 14, two Redhawks reached scoring milestones. Sophomore Rod Pearson scored his 500th point at Southeast and now has 542 points for his two-year career. Senior Mike Rembert scored his 400th point as a Redhawk and now has 451 points for his two years at Southeast. Including his two years at Bradley, Rembert has 569 points. Sophomore Marcus Rhodes went over the 400 point milestone on Saturday at Eastern Michigan and now has 401 points. Senior David Johnson has 458 career points.

HERRING LEADS SCORERS: Junior college transfer Jaycen Herring leads the Redhawks in scoring with an average of 13.3 points per game. He is shooting .502 from the field, .393 from three and .773 from the line. The 6-5 transfer from Palm Beach CC who played his freshman season at Tennessee-Chattanooga, Herring has scored in double figures in 20 of 26 games played.

TV HOT, HOT, HOT: Junior guard Kenard Moore was 11-16 (.688) from three in the two nationally televised games. Overall, he averages 10.0 points per game while shooting .394 from three and .846 from the line. He was 7-10 from three and 5-6 from the line while scoring a career high 28 points against Austin Peay. Last Saturday at Eastern Michigan he was 6-12 from three for 18 points.

Moore ranks 62nd nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (.394) and ranks 97th nationally in 3-pointers per game (2.5).

REMBERT HITS THE BOARDS: Senior post player Michael Rembert, recovering from two off season knee surgeries, is finally healthy and more productive. Rembert, who has started 19 of the last 21 games, is averaging 7.2 points and 5.0 rebound per game. He had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds at Murray State. He also had a double-double with 17 points and 19 rebounds at Eastern Kentucky. The 19 rebounds was a career high.

WILLIAMS BLOCKS SHOTS: Sophomore Calvin Williams leads the Redhawks in blocked shots and rebounds. He averages 5.7 rebounds and 1.07 blocked shots per game.

PEARSON CONSISTENT: Sophomore Rod Pearson has started 26 of 29 games this season. He is second on the team in scoring with 301 points and leads in assists with 79. Pearson averages 10.4 points and 2.6 assists.

IMPRESSIVE START BY BOGAN: True freshman Will Bogan, 6-10, 300, is off to an impressive start with the Redhawks. He had 23 points at Illinois State, second place team in the Missouri Valley Conference. Bogan had the game winning tip in with 1.9-seconds remaining in the win at Jacksonville State. He had 17 points against league leading Austin Peay and 18 points against Tennessee-Martin. He is shooting .588 from the field in OVC games and is 1-2 from three. After 26 games played, Bogan averages 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He is eighth in the OVC in blocked shots with 0.85 blocks per game.

DEPTH IS A KEY: Depth has played a key role for the Redhawks this season. In a stat researched by Chris Forman of the United States Naval Academy, Southeast is one of seven teams in NCAA Division I to have 10 or more players score in double figures this season. Wofford and Southeast have 11 players while Navy, Duquesne, Creighton, Belmont and Lipscomb have 10. The Redhawks who have scored in double figures this season and their game highs include Brandon Foust (25), Will Bogan (23), Rod Pearson (22), Jaycen Herring (29), Jimmy Drew (19), Kenard Moore (28), Calvin Williams (16), Marcus Rhodes (15), David Johnson (12), Mike Rembert (17) and Hank Harris (12).

HARRIS SHINES IN OT: Junior Hank Harris had a career high 12 points in the Austin Peay game. He was 2-3 from the field, 2-2 from three and 6-6 from the line. Harris had nine points in the third overtime.

OVC HONORS: Senior Brandon Foust was selected as a co-winner of the OVC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 7 after averaging a double-double in win wins over Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois. He averaged 16.5 points and 11 rebounds per contest and also added 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Calvin Williams, a transfer from Colorado, was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season after averaging a double-double in two opening OVC wins. Williams averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds per game in the wins over Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.

Jaycen Herring was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 4. He averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Austin Peay and UT Martin games.

FOUST OUT FOR SEASON: Senior forward Brandon Foust, 6-6, has been lost for the remainder of the season with a knee injury suffered in the Jan. 12 game at Austin Peay.

Foust, a preseason all-Ohio Valley Conference choice, injured his knee when landing from a dunk shot with 11:57 remaining in the game. He had surgery on his injured knee on Fri., Feb. 8.

For the season, Foust averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He shot .481 from the field, 370 from three and .780 from the free throw line.

For his career at Southeast, Foust played in 49 games and averaged 11.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

HILL RULED INELIGIBLE: As a result of information contained in a story in the Feb. 17th edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Southeast Missouri State Director of Athletics Don Kaverman has announced that sophomore Johnny Hill (St. Louis, Mo./Vashon) will be declared ineligible to compete for the Redhawks until the situation is reviewed. Hill, a 6-4 guard/forward, has appeared in 51 career games as a reserve for Southeast in addition to averaging 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in his collegiate career. In 24 games this season, he is averaging 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds a game. Hill will not play against Eastern Michigan.

TWO EARLY SIGNEES: The Redhawks signed two players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Martino Brock, 6-5 guard from Nashville Christian Academy, and Mark Caviness, 6-5 swing player from Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Brock is averaging 22 points and 7 rebounds per game this season. Caviness is averaging 16 points and seven rebounds per game.

AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast has a record of 212-94 (.693) at the Show Me Center since the facility opened in 1987. The Redhawks are 7-4 at the Show Me Center this season while leading the OVC in home attendance with 3,488 per game.

SID STREAK: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 818 consecutive basketball games. He has not missed a game since 1980.

REDHAWKS HAVE ST. LOUIS RADIO STATION: The Southeast Basketball Network includes Team 1380 Radio in St. Louis. The network operated by Mississippi River Radio, will be anchored by 100,000 watt K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Other network stations include KSIM, Sikeston;, KWOC, Poplar Bluff and KMAL, Malden.

Erik Sean is the play-by-play voice of Redhawks basketball with Todd Bonacki adding commentary at home games and Ron Hines adding color during the road games.

REDHAWKS BASKETBALL WITH Scott Edgar: Edgar will have a weekly television show on WQWQ-TV, the Heartland's CW. The show will be seen at 11 p.m. each Monday night beginning on Nov. 26 and will be hosted by Heartland Sports Director Todd Richards. The show will also be shown on Charter Cable, Channel 11 at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The show will also air on The Storm Team 24-hour Weather Channel at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

EDGAR ON RADIO: The Scott Edgar Radio Show will be heard every Tuesday, 6 p.m., on ESPN 1220 Radio. The hour long show that will include call ins, will be hosted by Erik Sean.

LIVE VIDEO STREAMING: Southeast fans can watch Redhawks OVC basketball games on the internet through the Ohio Valley Conference's premium we site, OVCSports.TV. OVCSports.TV can be accessed by logging on to the OVC Web site, www.svcsports.com. Subscriptions are available on an annual, seasonal and per-event basis.

NEXT FOR THE REDHAWKS: The Redhawks will host Jacksonville State on Saturday night. It will be Senior Night with seniors Brandon Foust, Mike Rembert and David Johnson honored prior to the 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
