Basketball Signs Junior College Guard

April 27, 2005

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State University basketball coach Gary Garner has announced that 6-4 guard David Johnson of Meramec Community College in St. Louis has signed a national letter of intent to attend Southeast in the fall.

Johnson averaged 13.8 points and 4.1 rebounds for the Meramec team that was 28-8 with a third place finish at the NJCAA Division II national tournament. He shot 40% from the floor, 36% from three and 69% from the line.

"David Johnson is a great athlete who can really shoot the three," Garner said. "He can play the 2 or 3 position. I like the fact that he was Meramec's best defender."

Johnson, who played high school basketball at CBC in St. Louis, is the fourth player to sign with Southeast. The other signees include 6-8 Andrais Thornton, 6-6 John Chappell and 6-4 Eric Jones.
