Southeast Basketball Signs Jimmy Drew

May 2, 2006

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - New Southeast Missouri State University basketball coach Scott Edgar has announced that 6-3 guard Jimmy Drew of Anna-Jonesboro High School in Anna, Ill., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Southeast.

Drew averaged 23.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for Anna-Jonesboro, 21-9 last season. He was a third team all-state selection and was named The Southern Boy's Basketball Player of the Year.

"We feel very fortunate that this late in the spring we were able to sign a player the caliber of Jimmy Drew," Edgar said. "I've watched a lot of players over the years and I was really impressed with Jimmy's work ethic and ability to knock down 3-point shots. My teams always use the 3-point shot as a valuable weapon.

"I feel that with hard work on his part and our part, he can develop into a very good player in the Ohio Valley Conference."

Drew hit 94 3-pointers last season, setting a new conference record, and established another record with 30 consecutive double-figure games.

Drew comes from an athletic family. His father, Jim, is a former high school basketball coach and he has an older brother and two sisters who have played collegiate sports. His sister, Cassie, is currently a member of the University of Missouri women's basketball team.
