Rodney Hamilton Named Assistant Basketball Coach
June 7, 2007 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Scott Edgar, basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State University, has completed his coaching staff with the hiring of Rodney Hamilton as an assistant coach. Hamilton is a former head coach at Westside High School in Memphis, Tenn., and has been an assistant at Crichton College in Memphis the past two seasons. "I've known Rodney Hamilton since he was playing at Whitehaven High School in Memphis and I've always been impressed with his enthusiasm and character," Edgar said. "He was the all-time assist leader as a collegiate player at Georgia State and should really be able to help our back court players. He has been successful as a head coach at Westside High School in Memphis and as an assistant at Crichton College. He will be a solid recruiter for us in the mid-south area. "Hamilton and Zac Roman were the two coaches we wanted to add to our staff and we've been able to hire both coaches. They will join with veteran coach and recruiter Ronnie Dean to give us what I believe will be the best staff in the Ohio Valley Conference." After playing four seasons at Georgia State where he became the first player in school history to have his jersey retired, Hamilton played three years of professional basketball in Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary. He became head coach at Westside High School in 2001 and moved to Crichton College in 2005. Last season's team at Crichton advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight after winning the TranSouth Conference regular season and tournament championship. At Southeast, Hamilton will replace Scepter Brownlee who resigned to take a coaching position at Georgia State. |
