SOUTHEAST MISSOURI BASKETBALL ROSTER IS SET

Aug. 15, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - There is one roster addition and one deletion for the Southeast Missouri State University 2003-2004 basketball team.

Coach Gary Garner announced that Randy Holbrook, 6-10 junior college center from St. Louis, failed to meet NCAA eligibility requirements and will not be a member of the team. The new addition to the roster is walk-on guard Travis Cox of Cape Girardeau.

"We knew because of his past academic problems that Holbrook was a risk, but we felt it was worth a try," Garner said. "Because of his talent we knew he could help us as a backup to Brandon Griffin at center. He basically had an opportunity to attend classes, do the prescribed academic work and play Division I basketball or he could miss class, fail academically and still play Division II basketball. He chose the latter. I wish him well at the Division II level."

Another junior college transfer, 6-4 guard Norman Prather, did meet all NCAA eligibility standards and will be eligible this season.

Cox, a super quick point guard, has been out of organized basketball a few years, but attended Southeast last year. He will have four years of eligibility.

"I am very excited about the upcoming season," Garner said. "We have had a number of players here this summer lifting weights and playing a lot of pick-up basketball. Everyone seems excited about the season and I think we will again challenge for one of the upper positions in the OVC. I can't wait to get started with individual workouts as soon as school starts and then the start of practice on Oct. 18.
