Roy Booker Signs With Top League in Greece
Sept. 26, 2008
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. - Former Southeast Missouri State basketball player Roy Booker has signed with Etha of Greece in the top league of European basketball. Booker, who led the top division in Holland in scoring last season, recently signed a contract with Etha Engomis, which is located Greece's capital of Nicosia. He is expected to give them scoring leadership. The Southeast Missouri State alumnus has a strong reputation as a scorer, after leading Netherlands with 23.7 points per game average in 2007-08. Booker had a season-high 40 point performance last season along with three 30-point games for Leiden. He's a shooter (39% from 3 in Holland), who has deep range, but can create his own shot off the dribble. Later in the season, his Aris Friesland contract was bought out by Koln in the German first division, where he spent the last couple of months of the season, displaying his versatility by running the point guard position. He's always been a scorer, including his NCAA career, when he averaged 22 points for SEMO. Booker joins a strong program in Etha, which last season finished the year in the league's semifinals. He is currently in the Etha training camp in Cyprus, Greece and is averaging 23 points per game in exhibition play. Booker is one of three former Redhawks currently playing in Europe. Reggie Golson is playing in Germany and Michael Rembert is playing in Austria. Golson is beginning his third season in Europe. A 2005 graduate of Southeast, Golson played in Germany during the 2006-07 season and in France last season. He recently signed with Pederborn in Germany's top division. Rembert, who played at Southeast last season, has signed with Klosterneuburg in Austria's top division. He played very well at the recent Eurobasket camp in Chicago, where he averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds and received praise as one of the top big men in the camp. |
