SOUTHEAST BEGINS BASKETBALL PRACTICE ON SATURDAY
Oct. 15, 2003 PRACTICE BEGINS SATURDAY: Practice officially begins on Saturday, Oct. 18 with drills scheduled for 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center. The team will also practice twice on Sunday with drills at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. COACH GARNER WILL ATTEND COACHES SUMMIT IN CHICAGO: Coach Gary Garner will be in Chicago on Wednesday for a Division I Head Coaches Summit. Attendance is required for all Division I head coaches and according to Kelvin Sampson, president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, credibility, collectively as a profession, has been called into question and the integrity and health of the game is at stake. The meeting in Chicago is historic. With the assistance of the NCAA, the press conference that follows the meeting will be telecast via satellite, available to every station in the nation. The press conference will be carried via telephone conference call with media around the country having access to learn the results of the meeting.
GRIFFIN RETURNS ON BOARDS: Brandon Griffin returns for his senior season after averaging a new Southeast Division I record of 10.5 rebounds per game last season. He pulled down 314 rebounds and was the second leading rebounder in the OVC. LITTLE KNOWN FACTS: Damarcus Hence has a 3-year old daughter, Markesia. John Boggio has seen every episode of Boy Meets World. Brett Hale collects Nutcrackers. Adam Crader is an excellent cook. Dainmon Gonner has five brothers. Reggie Golson's goal is to own a night club. Mike Nelke has played in two NCAA Tournaments. Other network stations included KWOC in Poplar Bluff and KSIM in Sikeston. Erik Sean will be the play-by-play voice of Southeast basketball with Todd Bonack adding commentary for home games and Ron Hines adding commentary for road games. Gary Garner RADIO SHOW: The Gary Garner Radio Show will be heard each Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on ESPN Radio, KGIR, 1220 AM. Erik Sean will host the program that will begin on Nov. 19. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MEDIA DAY: Media day for Coach B.J. Smith's women's basketball team will be Tuesday, Nov. 4 with a 12-noon luncheon at the Show Me Center. OVC BASKETBALL MEDIA DAY: The OVC Basketball Media Day for men and women will be Oct. 28 at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tenn. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. TELEVISED GAMES: Southeast is currently scheduled to appear on television three times this season with more games expected to be added at a later date. The Southeast game at Austin Peay on Jan. 24 will tipoff at 2:00 p.m. and will be televised live on Fox Sports Net South with a delayed telecast on Fox Sports Net Midwest. The Show Me Center game with Murray State on Feb. 7 will also tipoff at 2:00 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Net South with a delayed telecast of Fox Sports Net Midwest. The game at Arkansas on Dec. 9 will be televised by Arkansas TV Network and may be picked up locally. EXHIBITION GAMES: Southeast will face two former Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association members in exhibition contests. The Indians will host Truman State on Thursday, Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m. and will host Missouri-Rolla on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m. SEASON OPENER: Southeast will open the season at the Show Me Center in an 8:15 p.m. contest with Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday, Nov. 21. The Southeast women's team will meet SIU-Carbondale in a 6 p.m. contest that evening. |
