Cape Girardeau, Mo. -
The Southeast Missouri State University men's basketball team has been picked to place fourth in the 11-team Ohio Valley Conference basketball race in a preseason poll of OVC head basketball coaches and sports information directors.
Defending champion Austin Peay is picked to win the league with Morehead State second, Murray State third and Southeast fourth. Tennessee Tech is picked fifth followed by Tennessee-Martin, Samford, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State and Tennessee State.
"I am happy that the other coaches in the OVC project us as one of the top four teams in the league," said Southeast coach Gary Garner. "I think we can challenge for one of the top spots and a first round home game in the post-season tournament."
The teams that finish in the top four host first round tournament games with the winners of those games advancing to the semi-finals and finals at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.
Southeast had two players selected to the preseason all-conference team. Both junior guard Derek Winans and senior center Brandon Griffin were selected as second team preseason all-OVC.
Winans has led the Indians in scoring each of the last two years while Griffin was the top rebounder on last year's team.
