Basketball Hosts Exhibition Game On Saturday Night

The Teams: Southeast Missouri State is coming off an 11-16 season. Harris-Stowe is an NAIA team out of St. Louis. It will be the exhibition opener for Southeast while it will be the second game for the Hornets who will open the season on Thursday night at Missouri Valley.

The Coaches: Gary Garner is 351-263 beginning his 22nd year as a collegiate head coach. He is 104-98 going into his eighth year at Southeast. Exhibition games do not count on a coaches record. The Harris-Stowe coach is Rich Fanning.

The Series: Southeast leads the series 7-2. The teams last met in 1986 when Southeast claimed a 113-57 decision in St. Louis.

Winans Sidelined: Derek Winans still has not started practice because of a stress fracture in his leg. He is being examined by a doctor in St. Louis on Monday and will not play in the exhibition game on Saturday night. He could begin practice next week.
 

 

Belcher Ready For Action: Junior college transfer Ryan "Fuzzy" Belcher has been ruled eligible to play this season and will see action in Saturday night's exhibition game.

Early Tune-up: Southeast got a jump start on the 2004-2005 season by playing three exhibition games in Canada over the Labor Day weekend. Southeast was 2-1.

Golson Starts Fast: After closing last season strong, Reggie Golson played well in Canada, averaging 23.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in the three games. He shot .756 from the field.

Willoughby Lights It Up: Sophomore point guard Terrick Willoughby averaged 14.7 points per game in Canada while shooting .556 from the field and .600 from three.

Post Tandem: Junior college transfers Ketshner Guerrier and Waylon Francis shared time at the post position in Canada and are expected to share time in the exhibition opener. In Canada, Guerrier averaged 11.3 points and five rebounds per game while Francis led the team in rebounding with eight boards per game.

Next: Southeast will play its final exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 13, going against Harding University in a 7:30 p.m. game at the Show Me Center. Southeast opens the regular season at Bradley on Nov. 19. The regular season home opener is against Rockhurst on Nov. 23.
