Men's Basketball Kicks Off Exhibition Schedule This Week

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -
THE COACHES: Southeast will be under the direction of new head coach Scott Edgar, an assistant at Tennessee last season who has served as head coach at Duquesne and Murray State. He has also been an assistant at Tulsa, Arkansas and Alabama-Birmingham. Westminster coach Matt Mitchell is 82-118 in eight years as head coach. Kentucky Wesleyan coach Todd Lee is 9-17 in one season with the Panthers.
THE OPPONENTS: Westminster was 13-13 last season and returns four starters. An NCAA Division III team, Westminster plays in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Kentucky Wesleyan is a perennial Division II power that plays in the Great Lakes Athletic Conference. The Panthers were 9-17 last season.
EXHIBITION GAMES: The Redhawks will play back-to-back exhibition games with Westminster on Thursday and Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
WHITE INJURED: Senior Tyrell White, 6-7, injured a foot during the first practice and will be sidelined until at least the regular season opener on Nov. 10 at Arkansas.
TOUGH OPENER: Southeast will open the regular season at Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 10, 7:05 p.m. The first home game in the regular season will be Friday, Nov. 24, vs. California-Riverside.
TOP OF THE WORLD CLASSIC: The Redhawks will play in the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Nov. 17, 18 and 19. Southeast opens with the Drake Bulldogs from the Missouri Valley Conference at 11:30 p.m. (CST) on Nov. 17. They will play either Utah State or Centenary during the second round. Other teams in the tournament include Weber State, Troy, Rhode Island and Alaska-Fairbanks.
REDHAWKS ADD ST. LOUIS RADIO STATION: The Southeast Basketball Network has added 1380 ESPN Radio in St. Louis. The network operated by Mississippi River Radio, will be anchored by 100,000 watt K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Other network stations include KSIM, Sikeston;, KWOC, Poplar Bluff and KMAL, Malden. Erik Sean will be the play-by-play voice of Redhawks basketball with Todd Bonacki adding commentary for home games and Ron Hines adding color during the road games.
