Basketball Wins Exhibition Opener

Cape Girardeau, Mo., - Southeast Missouri State had to come from behind in the second half to defeat a pesky Westminster team 88-79 in the exhibition opener for both teams.

The visiting Blue Jays led 39-35 at the half and maintained a slim lead through the first eight minutes of the second half. Southeast finally took the lead for good with 12:15 remaining when freshman Roderick Pearson hit a 3-pointer to put the Redhawks up 56-53.

Michael Rembert, 6-9 transfer from Bradley, led the Redhawks with 16 points and seven rebounds while Terrick Willoughby added 13 points, Brandon Foust 11 and David Johnson 10.

Westminster was led Andrew Buxton with a game-high 27 points. Robert Davis added 12 and Cade House 11.

Southeast, 1-0 in exhibition play, hosts Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center. It will be the final exhibition game for the Redhawks who open the regular season at Arkansas on Nov. 10.
