Southeast Basketball Hosts Harding In Final Exhibition Game

The Teams: Southeast Missouri State is coming off an 11-16 season. The Indians opened the exhibition season with a 90-41 win over Harris-Stowe. Saturday's game will be the exhibition opener for Harding. The Bison were 18-10 last season.

The Coaches: Gary Garner is 351-263 beginning his 22nd year as a collegiate head coach. He is 104-98 going into his eighth year at Southeast. Exhibition games do not count on a coaches record.

The Harding coach is Jeff Morgan.

The Series: Southeast leads the series 1-0 The teams last met in 1987 when Southeast claimed a 75-67 win.

SOUTHEAST NOTES

Winans Sidelined: Derek Winans still has not started practice because of a stress fracture in his leg. After seeing a doctor in St. Louis, it was determined that Winans will not start practice until at least Dec. 1.
 

 

Early Tune-up: Southeast got a jump start on the 2004-2005 season by playing three exhibition games in Canada over the Labor Day weekend. Southeast was 2-1.

Gonner Starts Hot: Dainmon Gonner, who did not play in Canada, made his first seven shots vs. Harris-Stowe including 3-3 from three. He ended the game with 21 points and a team high 13 rebounds.

Golson Starts Fast: After closing last season strong, Reggie Golson played well in Canada, averaging 23.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in the three games. He shot .756 from the field. Golson had 16 points and 8 rebounds in the Harris-Stowe game.

Willoughby Lights It Up: Sophomore point guard Terrick Willoughby averaged 14.7 points per game in Canada while shooting .556 from the field and .600 from three. Against Harris-Stowe, he had 10 points including 2-3 from three.

Post Tandem: Junior college transfers Ketshner Guerrier and Waylon Francis shared time at the post position in Canada and are expected to share time in the exhibition games. Against Harris-Stowe, Guerrier had 18 points and 9 rebounds while Francis had 3 points and 5 rebounds.

Next: Southeast will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 19, at Bradley. The regular season home opener will be Nov. 23 vs. Rockhurst.
