Redhawks Open Home Season vs. Culver-Stockton

Basketball Game Information Southeast Missouri State vs. Culver-Stockton Friday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. Show Me Center THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 0-2 after losing to nationally ranked Xavier 90-59 on Saturday night in Cincinnati and losing to Illinois State of the Missouri Valley Conference, 90-71 on Wednesday. The Redhawks were 2-0 in exhibition play, beating Lincoln 102-96 and Missouri-Rolla, 80-63. Southeast Missouri State was 11-20 overall and 9-11 in the in the Ohio Valley Conference last season. The Redhawks have been picked to finish fifth in the OVC this season. Culver-Stockton is 2-2 with wins over William Woods and Graceland and losses to Hannibal Lagrange and Iowa Wesleyan. The Wildcats are led by Youngstown State transfer Chris Booth who averages 10.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. THE COACHES: Scott Edgar is 11-22 in his second season as head coach at Southeast after previous head coaching stints at Murray State and Duquesne. His collegiate record is 119-117 in his ninth year as a head coach. Brad Hoyt is 21-43 in his third season at Culver-Stockton. THE SERIES: The Culver-Stockton series is tied 1-1. Southeast beat the Wildcats 84-78 in the 1975-76 season opener and Culver-Stockton won 96-81 the following year in 1976-77. **REDHAWKS NOTES** REMBERT WILL PLAY: Senior post player Michael Rembert, who is recovering from two off season knee surgeries, has not played in a game this season, but is expected to be ready for limited action in the home opener vs. Culver-Stockton. Rembert, a transfer from Bradley, averaged 9.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season. IMPRESSIVE START BY BOGAN: True freshman Will Bogan, 6-10, 300, is off to an impressive start with the Redhawks. After two games against outstanding opponents, Bogan leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and 8 rebounds per game. He is shooting .550 from the field and .667 from the line. Bogan, who has come off the bench, also has three assists and five blocked shots. BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: The Redhawks have been out rebounded 99-66 in the first two games. Bogan is the Redhawks top rebounder with8.0 per game while Calvin Williams averages 5.0 boards per game. CHICAGO INVITATIONAL CHALLENGE: Southeast is 0-2 in after losing to Xavier and Illinois State.. The Redhawks continue tournament play in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Redhawks will face Coppin State at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 and will play either Longwood or North Carolina-Wilmington at either 11:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 24. REDHAWKS 2-0 IN EXHIBITIONS: Southeast beat Missouri-Rolla 80-63 on Saturday night to end a 2-0 exhibition season. The Redhawks came from behind to beat a hot shooting Lincoln team, 102-96, in the exhibition opener on Thursday night. Jaycen Herring led five Redhawks in double figures with 22 points while freshman Will Bogan added 20 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Herring had 19 points and six rebounds vs. Missouri-Rolla while sophomore guard Rod Pearson had 11 points. Senior David Johnson had a team-high four assists and added seven rebounds. HERRING INJURES THUMB: Junior college transfer Jaycen Herring, who led the Redhawks in both exhibition games, suffered a thumb injury in practice the day before the Xavier game. The 6-5 transfer from Palm Beach CC who played his freshman season at Tennessee-Chattanooga, Herring averaged 20.5 points per game in the two exhibition games. With a heavily taped right thumb, he played just 18-minutes at Xavier with four points and played 20-minutes vs. Illinois State with eight points anf four rebounds. MAXWELL HAS SURGERY: Sophomore Jajuan Maxwell had minor knee surgery on Oct. 22. It was Maxwell's second surgery since last season and increases the possibility that he will be redshirted this season. REDHAWKS HAVE ST. LOUIS RADIO STATION: The Southeast Basketball Network includes 1380 ESPN Radio in St. Louis. The network operated by Mississippi River Radio, will be anchored by 100,000 watt K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Other network stations include KSIM, Sikeston;, KWOC, Poplar Bluff and KMAL, Malden. Erik Sean will be the play-by-play voice of Redhawks basketball with Todd Bonacki adding commentary at home games and Ron Hines adding color during the road games. REDHAWKS BASKETBALL WITH Scott Edgar: Edgar will have a weekly television show on WQWQ-TV, the Heartland's CW. The show will be seen at 11 p.m. each Monday night beginning on Nov. 26 and will be hosted by Heartland Sports Director Todd Richards. The show will also be shown on Charter Cable, Channel 11 at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The show will also air on The Storm Team 24-hour Weather Channel at times yet to be determined. EDGAR ON RADIO: The Scott Edgar Radio Show will be heard every Tuesday, 6 p.m., on ESPN 1220 Radio. The hour long show that will include call ins, will be hosted by Erik Sean. SID STREAK: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 791 consecutive basketball games. He has not missed a game since 1980. NEXT FOR THE REDHAWKS: The Redhawks will host Evansville of the Missouri Valley Conference on Tuesday, Nov. 20. |
