THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri was 11-19 overall and 5-11 in the OVC last season. Southeast was 1-1 in exhibition play after beating Truman State 93-66 and losing to Missouri-Rolla.

Wisconsin-Green Bay was 10-20 last season. The Phoenix were 2-0 in exhibition play beating Northern Michigan 77-33 and Wisconsin All-Stars 101-95.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 93-82 in six seasons at Southeast and is 340-246 in 20 years as a collegiate head coach. He is 3-3 in season openers at Southeast.

Tod Kowlczyk is 10-20 after one season at Wisconsin-Green Bay.

THE SERIES: The series is tied 1-1. Southeast beat the Phoenix 67-65 in the 1992 season opener at the Show Me Center and lost to UW-GB 82-54 in the 1991 season opener at Green Bay.

SOUTHEAST PICKED 4th IN OVC: The preseason poll of league coaches and sports information directors picked Southeast to finish fourth in the OVC behind Austin Peay, Morehead State and Murray State.

OVC STAT LEADERS RETURN: Junior guards Brett Hale and Kevin Roberts both led the OVC in statistical categories last season. Hale led the league in free throw percentage with 64-70 for .914.

Roberts led the league in assists with 179 and in assist/turnover ratio with 3.1. The 179 assists was the second highest single season market Southeast putting him just behind school record holder Dwayne Rutherford who had 200 assists during the 1998-99 season.

WINANS CLOSES ON MILESTONES: Junior guard Derek Winans who has started 57 straight games at Southeast enters the season with 861 career points. He needs just 139 points to become the 18th player in Southeast history to score 1,000 points.

INJURIES: Reggie Golson (ankle) will be out for another one to three weeks. Norman Prather (ankle) and Dainmon Gonner (groin) have missed practices but are probable for the season opener.

Gary Garner RADIO SHOW: The Gary Garner Radio Show will be heard each Wednesday from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. live from Buffalo Wild Wings on 1220 AM. Erik Sean will host the show that will be shared with football coach Tim Billings this Wednesday.

Gary Garner TV SHOW: Southeast Missouri Basketball with Gary Garner will be seen each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on UPN-The Beat beginning on Dec. 25. Steve Sotak will be host for the 30-minute show.

NEXT GAME: Southeast will host Kentucky Christian on Monday night at 7:30. The Indians will then leave on Thanksgiving day for the Montana Holiday Tournament. Southeast will face St. Mary's of California on Saturday, Nov. 29 in a 6:30 p.m. game.
