Indians Head to K.C. Southeast looks to post three more wins in its column as they head west for the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 60-29 in his fourth season at Southeast and is 307-191 in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. Stan Joplin is 65-48 beginning his fifth season at Toledo. THE SERIES: First Meeting.
SOUTHEAST NOTES GOOD SHOOTING: Good shooting highlighted Southeast's opening two wins. After two games, the Indians are shooting .504 from the field, .474 from three and ..767 from the line. Southeast has 18 3-pointers after two games. TOUGH DEFENSE: Last season, Southeast ranked fifth nationally in field goal percentage defense (38%) and 17th nationally in scoring defense (61.6 ppg) . In two games this season, Southeast defenders have allowed opponents to shoot just .369 from the field and .275 from three. Opponents are averaging 61 points per game. SHORT RETURNS: Senior Antonio Short returned to action in the Missouri-Rolla game. He was suspended for the first three games because of a violation of team rules. Short, a preseason honorable mention All-OVC selection, averaged 8.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game last season. He had eight points and three rebounds in the Missouri-Rolla game. McCUTHISON LEADS SCORERS: Senior Emmanuel McCuthison is the early scoring leader in a balanced Southeast attack. He is averaging 15 points per game while shooting .500 from the floor and .429 from three. SANDERS FROM THREE: Senior guard Amory Sanders, who is the first guard off the bench, is shooting .571 from three. He is also a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Sanders also leads the team in assists with 10. BIG GUY OFF THE BENCH: Junior college transfer Terry Rogers, 6-10, 280, came off the bench to score 17 points and pull down six rebounds in just 17-minutes of action in the Missouri-Rolla game. He did not play in the season opener because of bronchitis. STOKES SOLID: Senior point guard Michael Stokes, ranked as the 16th best point guard nationally, is averaging 11.5 points, 5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He is shooting .562 from the field and .500 from three. DEMOND BLOCKS CONTINUE: Junior Drew DeMond continues to be a force on defense. Last season in limited playing time, DeMond had 26 blocked shots in 23 games played. After two games this season, DeMond has seven blocks. He is also tied for the team lead in rebounds with 10 and he is averaging 9.5 points per game. MORRIS SIDELINED: Senior guard Matt Morris will be sidelined until the first of the year because of mononucleosis. SOUTHEAST PICKED THIRD IN OVC: Southeast has been picked to finish third in the league race in balloting of league coaches and sports information directors. Austin Peay was picked to win the OVC followed by Murray State, Southeast Missouri, Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech. STOKES PRESEASON ALL-OVC: Senior point guard Michael Stokes was selected first team preseason all-OVC. Ranked as the 16th best point guard in Division I basketball by the Sporting News, Stokes was third team all-OVC and a member of the OVC all-tournament team last season. Antonio Short was selected as honorable mention preseason all-OVC.
AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast is 157-45 (.777) since the Show Me Center opened in 1987. Last season, Southeast again led the OVC in attendance with 5,066 fans per game. After two games this season, Southeast averages 4,584 fans per game. NEXT: A Southeast win against Toledo would put the Indians in the semi-finals at 2 p.m. Saturday against the winner of the Auburn vs. Robert Morris game. If Southeast loses to Toledo, the Indians would meet the loser of the Auburn vs. Robert Morris game in the consolation semi-finals at 12-noon on Saturday. A complete tournament bracket follows. |
