THE TEAMS: Southeast is 2-0 in exhibition games after beating Missouri-Rolla 77-53 and beating Dream Builders 92-52. Last season, Southeast was 6-22. Arkansas State was 2-0 in exhibition games. The Indians beat Williams Baptist and Athletes First. Last season ASU was 15-16.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 82-63 after five seasons at Southeast and is 329-226 after 19 years as a collegiate head coach. He is 2-0 vs. Arkansas State. Dicky Nutt is 104-98 in his eighth season at ASU. He is 0-2 vs. Southeast Missouri.

THE SERIES: Southeast leads the long series 38-23. The teams last met in 1999 with Southeast winning 74-71 at the Show Me Center. The last time the teams met at ASU, Southeast won 76-75.

SOUTHEAST NOTES

Season Openers: Southeast is 7-4 in season openers since moving to Division I in 1991. In road season openers, Southeast is 0-2 with losses to Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1991 and Colorado in 1997.

Hitting the Boards: After being a minus 5.6 on the boards last season, Southeast hit the boards hard during exhibition play out rebounding the two opponents by 40. Newcomer Brandon Griffin, 6-8, averaged 13.5 rebounds per game in the two exhibition contests. Golson Recovering: Junior college transfer Reggie Golson is still recovering from minor knee surgery and is not expected to see game action until the University Hoops Classic in New Orleans beginning on Nov. 28. He began limited practice on Thursday.

Scheer Doubtful: Senior Tim Scheer missed the Dream Builders game with a strained right calf muscle and is doubtful for the Arkansas State opener. Scheer has played in 67 games at Southeast with 580 career points and 375 career rebounds.

Winans Selected 2nd Team Preseason All-OVC: Derek Winans, last season's OVC Freshman of the Year, was named second team preseason All-OVC in voting by coaches and sports information directors. Winans led the Indians in scoring (14.9 ppg), 3-pointers (53), steals (45), assists (80), minutes played (34.8) and was third in free throw percentage (.797) and rebounding (4.6). With 402 points scored, Winans ranks as the top freshman scorer at Southeast since William "Bud" Eley scored 465 points during the 1995-96 season. Winans was the Indians' rebounding leader in OVC games with an average of 5.3 per game. In OVC statistics, Winans was ranked in nine different statistical categories. A 4.0 student, Winans is a two-time OVC Medal of Honor winner.

Home Opener: The home opener will be Monday, Nov. 25, 7 p.m., vs. Central Methodist. The Runnin' Eagles are off to a 4-0 start. At the Show Me Center: Southeast is 170-59 (.742) in games at the Show Me Center. The record does not include exhibition games.
