Booker Named OVC Player of the Week
Nov. 28, 2005 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Roy Booker of Southeast Missouri State has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Player of the Week after scoring 60 points in three games last week. Booker extended his season-opening streak of double-figure scoring games to four, averaging 20.0 points in a trio of outings last week. The senior guard opened with 25 points in a 65-64 loss to IPFW, then tossed in 12 in a 75-68 win at South Dakota State. In a 69-54 loss to Nebraska, the Portageville, Mo., native capped off the week with 23 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double as a Redhawk. In addition to his scoring contributions, Booker finished the week with 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals. "Roy Booker is playing well for us," said Southeast coach Gary Garner. "He really hasn't been shooting that well, but he is a scorer who finds a way to score. We need his offense to be successful." Booker and the Redhawks will open OVC play on Saturday at Tennessee-Martin with a 6 p.m. tipoff at Skyhawk Arena. |
