THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 4-2 after capturing the consolation championship at the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament in Kansas City. Southeast lost the opening round decision to Toledo but bounced back with wins over Robert Morris and Cleveland State. Southeast then traveled to Mississippi Valley State and dropped a 83-77 decision. Southeast's other two wins this season are over Truman State and Missouri-Rolla. Southern Illinois is 3-1 after home victories against Long Beach State, St. Louis and Ball State and a road loss to Indiana.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 62-31 in his fourth season at Southeast and is 309-195 in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. Bruce Weber is 38-25 in his third season at SIU. He is 453-201 in his 19th season overall as a coach, having served in assistant positions at Purdue and Western Kentucky.

THE SERIES: Southern Illinois leads the series 62-42 all-time. SIU won last year's meeting 62-51 in Carbondale.

SHORT HAS CAREER NIGHT: Despite losing to Mississippi Valley, Antonio Short put up career numbers. He had a career-high in points (22) and field goals attempted (14) and tied his career highs in field goals made (7) and three-pointers made (3). After sitting out the two exhibition contests and the first regular season game, Short is second on the team in scoring with a 12.6 average.

DEFENSIVE SLIP: The 83 points scored by Mississippi Valley State was the most by an Indian opponent since Louisiana Tech scored 84 in 1998.

McCUTHISON MAKE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Senior Emmanuel McCuthison was named to the all-tournament team in the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament in Kansas City. He averaged 15.3 points and four rebounds per game in the three tournament games while shooting 61% from the field, 50% from three-point range, and 83% from the line. McCuthison is the early scoring leader for Southeast. He is averaging 14.3 points per game, while shooting 51% from the field, 42% from three, and 83% from the line. He has also knocked down 14 three-pointers on season.

SANDERS FROM THREE: Senior guard Amory Sanders, who is the first guard off the bench, is shooting .486 from three. He hit 7-10 from behind the arc in the win over Robert Morris and currently leads the team with 15 total three-pointers.

ROGERS EARNS PLAYING TIME: Junior college transfer Terry Rogers, 6-10, 280, came off the bench to score 17 points and pull down six rebounds in just 17-minutes of action in the Missouri-Rolla game. He is currently the team leader in rebounds, averaging 5.2 per contest.

STOKES SOLID: Senior point guard Michael Stokes, ranked as the 16th best point guard nationally, is averaging 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He is shooting 83% from the free-throw line

DEMOND BLOCKS CONTINUE: Junior Drew DeMond continues to be a force on defense. Last season in limited playing time, DeMond had 26 blocked shots in 23 games played. After five games this season, DeMond has a team-high eight blocks.

MORRIS SIDELINED: Senior guard Matt Morris will be sidelined until the first of the year because of mononucleosis.

SOUTHEAST PICKED THIRD IN OVC: Southeast has been picked to finish third in the league race in balloting of league coaches and sports information directors. Austin Peay was picked to win the OVC followed by Murray State, Southeast Missouri, Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech.

STOKES PRESEASON ALL-OVC: Senior point guard Michael Stokes was selected first team preseason all-OVC. Ranked as the 16th best point guard in Division I basketball by the Sporting News, Stokes was third team all-OVC and a member of the OVC all-tournament team last season. Antonio Short was selected as honorable mention preseason all-OVC.

AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast is 157-45 (.777) since the Show Me Center opened in 1987. Last season, Southeast again led the OVC in attendance with 5,066 fans per game. After two games this season, Southeast averages 4,584 fans per game.

NEXT: Southeast will play its first Ohio Valley Conference game of the season, as the Indians will take on Tennessee Tech on Saturday, December 9, at the Show Me Center. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
