Don Kaverman is completing his tenth year as Director of Athletics at Southeast Missouri State University. Kaverman, formerly Athletic Director at Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Mo., began his duties at Southeast on Feb. 1, 1999.

At Southeast, Kaverman has presided over a very successful athletic program. Southeast has claimed 25 Ohio Valley Conference team championships, eight OVC tournament championships and has sent nine teams and numerous individual athletes on to NCAA competition.

The women's athletic teams at Southeast have won the OVC Women's All Sports Trophy seven times. During Kaverman's tenure, Southeast athletes have won 29 OVC Athlete of the Year Awards and coaches have claimed 15 OVC Coach of the Year awards.

Athletes also have performed well in the classroom with 49% having a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.

Kaverman has facilitated numerous capital improvements for athletics including the completion of the Redhawks Success Center for academic support, new locker rooms at the Show Me Center, a new softball complex, the complete renovation of the Abe Stuber Track & Field Complex and the construction of a tennis complex.

There have been numerous improvements to Houck Stadium, including a new Field Turf playing surface, a new exterior finish and new paved parking area adjacent to the east end zone. A new dormitory is being built on the west end of Houck Stadium an the ground floor will include new game day dressing rooms for football and soccer.

Kaverman, a graduate of Michigan State University, was Athletic Director at Missouri Western for four years. He previously served as Associate Director of Athletics for business and financial affairs at San Diego State from 1992-1995 and Associate Director for Student-Athlete Services from 1988-1992. Prior to that, he was head athletic trainer at San Diego State, coordinator of sports medicine at Ferris State University, conditioning coordinator and assistant athletic trainer for the Detroit Lions and assistant athletic trainer at Northwestern.

He holds a master's degree in Physical Education and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, both from Michigan State.

Active in a number of organizations, Kaverman previously served on the NCAA Committee for Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports, chairing the drug education/drug testing subcommittee. He is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and is the past President for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association. In addition, he serves on the NCAA FCS Football Committee and the Division I Football Issues Committee.

Locally, Kaverman serves as a member of the Saint Francis Health Care System Board of Directors, and the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. He is also a former member of the Catholic Campus Ministry Advisory Board.

Kaverman is the recipient of the 1988 Meritorious Performance and Professional Promise Award from the California State University system and the 1980 Outstanding Young Man in America Award from the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Kaverman and his wife, Sue, have three children; Scott (22), Robert (20), and Amanda (17). Scott is a senior at Southeast this fall while Robert is a junior.
