Football Falls to #15 Jacksonville State, 24-3
Nov. 7, 2009
By Jeff Honza CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Ryan Perrilloux threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 15/17 Jacksonville State (6-3, 4-1) to a commanding 24-3 win over Southeast Missouri (1-8, 0-7) Saturday at Houck Stadium. Perrilloux completed 13-of-26 passes and threw both of his touchdowns in the first quarter, where the Gamecocks scored 21 points. Perrilloux averaged 15.8 yards per completion, as well. After Southeast came up short on a 4th-and-1, JSU took over on downs at the Redhawks 37-yardline. A 17-yard rush by Alphonso Freeney and 13-yard pass from Perrilloux to Greg Smith helped move the Gamecocks inside the 5-yardline. On the next play, Perrilloux threw his first touchdown on a 4-yard pass to Justin Howard to give JSU a 7-0 lead with 7:56 remaining in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Josh Cain jarred the ball loose when he hit Jacob McKinley. James Shaw scooped up the ball and ran 29 yards into the end zone to extend the Gamecocks lead to 14-0. Following a Southeast punt, JSU started its next drive at its own 22. Three plays in, Perrilloux hit a wide open Alan Bonner in stride along the near sideline for a 54-yard touchdown to push JSU's lead to 21-0 with 2:57 on the clock. Patrick Tatum's 22-yard field goal with 25 seconds left then gave JSU a 24-0 lead at the half. Curtis Huge's 33-yard field goal with 33 ticks left in the third quarter accounted for Southeast's only points of the game, as the Redhawks suffered their eighth-straight loss. Southeast ran a season-high 78 plays en route to 312 yards of total offense, including 235 on the ground. The Redhawks also possessed the ball more than their opponent for the first time this year. Southeast had a 33:47 to 26:13 advantage in time of possession. Meanwhile, JSU registered 355 total yards, with 206 coming through the air. In addition, both teams combined for six fumbles (two lost) and one interception on the day. Offensively, Henry Harris led the Redhawks with 74 yards on 17 carries. Matt Scheible followed with 71 yards on 19 rushing attempts. Scheible also completed 12-of-25 passes for 77 yards and did not throw an interception for the first time since Sept. 3. Defensively, the Redhawks were led by Eddie Calvin's nine tackles. Quentin Brown and Josh Woods followed with seven apiece. JSU had three players post double-digit tackles, including Alexander Henderson (17), Kevin Dix (11) and Keginald Harris (10). Southeast returns to action when it hosts Murray State in its final Ohio Valley Conference game of the season on Nov. 14. |
