Southeast Missouri Football Faces Demanding Schedule

March 25, 2004

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State University football team will face a very demanding schedule in 2004 with seven road games including two against Division I-A foes.

The Indians will open the season with three straight road games beginning with a Thursday, Sept. 2, match-up at regional rival Southern Illinois. Road games against I-A opponents Bowling Green and Central Michigan follow on Sept. 11 and Sept. 18 before Southeast opens the home season with a Family Weekend game with Ohio Valley Conference foe Samford on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The other home games will be October 16 in the Hall of Fame game with Eastern Kentucky, the Oct. 30 Homecoming game with Tennessee-Martin and the home finale on Nov. 13 with Tennessee Tech. The Samford and Eastern Kentucky games begin at 6 p.m. with the Tennessee-Martin and Tennessee Tech games kicking off at 1 p.m.

The remainder of the schedule is in the OVC with road games at Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Tennessee State and Jacksonville State.

"Our non-conference schedule has to be the toughest in school history," said Southeast coach Tim Billings. "SIU was a I-AA playoff team last season, Bowling Green won the Motor City Bowl over Northwestern of the Big 10 and Central Michigan is an improving I-A team. "We have our work cut out for us, but our players always look forward to playing against I-A teams and we have a great rivalry with SIU."

The four home games are all OVC league games. "We have only four home games at Houck Stadium, but all four should be great contests," Billings said. "Samford has some of the top talent in the OVC, Eastern Kentucky has been picked to win the league by at least one publication, Tennessee-Martin is vastly improved and Tennessee Tech always has a solid team. Hopefully our large and vocal crowds will turn out for the home games."
