Offense Beats Defense In Final Spring Football Scrimmage

April 21, 2007

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The offense scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters and added a field goal and some bonus points for three straight first downs and a play of over 25 yards to claim a 22-18 win over the defense in Southeast Missouri State's final football scrimmage of the spring.

The Redhawks used three quarterbacks with junior college transfers Victor Anderson and Houston Lillard recording identical statistics with both players completing 9-16 passes for 71 yards with a long of 24 yards. Redshirt freshman Steve Callanan was 1-2 passing with the one completion a 30 yard scoring toss to Miles Edwards.

The other touchdown was a 20 yard run by Sterling Hardin. Collin Schermann added a 44-yard field goal.

Junior Tim Holloman rushed the ball 20 times for 65 yards while Edwards and Vince Anderson each had five catches.

The Southeast defense got most of its points with quarterback sacks worth two points each. Matt Stahlberg had two sacks for 15 yards in losses while the other sacks came from Ryan Taloa, Patrick Christian, Brandon Walton, Hannibal Vaivao and Nick Ketelsleger.

"I thought we got good effort for the entire scrimmage and it was good to see that we had no turnovers," said Southeast coach Tony Samuel. "I thought all three quarterbacks played well. It was amazing that Anderson and Lillard had exactly the same statistics."
