Southeast Spring Football Game is Saturday, 6 p.m., at Houck Stadium

April 22, 2004

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State University football team will conclude spring drills with the annual spring game on Saturday, 6 p.m., at Houck Stadium.

"We've had a good spring practice," said Southeast coach Tim Billings. "We've had an adjustment period with new offensive and defensive coordinators but I think we've had a very useful spring. Saturday's spring game gives us a chance to play in front of the fans and see how the team reacts. I think everyone is excited."

The offensive line is short in numbers and so the offensive line will play for both teams. "We have some really good offensive linemen, but we don't have enough of them," Billings said. "Our game will go four quarters or until we run out of offensive linemen."

The White team will be quarterbacked by Andrew Goodenough who passed for 906 yards in seven games last season including 407 yards passing in last year' OVC championship game against Jacksonville State.

Goodenough will have transfer Brian Matthews from East Tennessee State as one of his top targets along with junior college transfer Oge Oge, Matt Boyack, Bill Coleman and T.J. Milcic. The White team running back will be David Taufoou who rushed for 240 yards in just eight games last season.

Newcomer Mike Haley will quarterback the Red team and will have All-America tight end Ray Goodson as one of his targets along with wide receivers Anthony Gilliam, Antonio Scaife and Nikelya Dennis. The running back for the Red team will be Jamel Oliver who led Southeast in rushing last season with 619 yards.

The White team defense will be led by defensive tackle Brandon Bohnert, linebackers Ricky Smith and Corey Andrade and defensive back Donte Clark, a transfer from Arkansas State.

The Red team defense features last year's leading tackler, linebacker O.J.Turner and defensive linemen Bernard Quinn, Edgar Jones and Cal Jillson. Marco Tipton, a medical redshirt last season, will be at one corner position for the Red team.

Red team coaches will include Kip Shaw and Mike Chavez on offense and new defensive coordinator Damon Bradford, Matt Webb and Zane Jillson on defense. The White team coaches will include new offensive coordinator Rob Likens, Tony Joe White and J.P. Hall on offense and Cody Vardeman and Andy McGill on defense.
