Red Defeats White in Spring Football Game

April 24, 2004

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - A double reverse end around 53-yard pass play from wide receiver Antonio Scaife to fellow wideout Anthony Gilliam resulted in the only touchdown in the annual spring football game.

The touchdown came on the second play of the second half and gave the Red team a 10-0 lead that held up in a 10-3 victory over the White team. The game was stopped with 7:30 remaining in the fourth quarter because of a tornado warning for Cape Girardeau.

The game was dominated by passing with the White team rushing for only 11 yards and the Red team just 37 yards. Junior college transfer Mike Haley was 5-12 for 125 yards with one interception for the Red team. Andrew Goodenough completed 19-32 passes for 113 yards for the White team.

Gilliam had three catches for 144 yards while T.J. Milcic had seven catches for 62 yards. Jamel Oliver was the leading rusher in the game with eight carries for 23 yards.

Derek Kutz kicked for both teams and converted on field goals of 24 and 26 yards.
